This Hawaiian practice of forgiveness is a powerful tool for restoring love and balance. Cords can sometimes cause us to take on the energy of others and the ancient Hawaiians thought that the cords should be cut or dissolved often to make sure you’re not hanging on to someone else’s energy.

Today we're going to do a type of cord cutting meditation called ho'oponopono,

Which is also known as the Hawaiian prayer of forgiveness.

This ancient Hawaiian practice of forgiveness functions as a tool for restoring self love and balance.

The ancient Hawaiians believed that whenever you meet another person,

You establish a connection with them,

Called a cord,

That continues even when you're not in the presence of that person.

These cords can sometimes cause us to take on the energy of others.

To rebalance this energy,

The ancient Hawaiians believed that the cords should often be cut or dissolved.

The word ho'oponopono roughly translates to causing things to move back in balance or to make things right.

So before we get started,

I want you to make yourself comfortable.

Take a few deep breaths,

Close your eyes,

And start to relax.

Now begin to imagine that you're sitting in the middle of a theater with a large lit stage in front of you.

And as you look to the stage,

Notice that it's beginning to fill up with everyone you've ever met.

Your parents,

Your grandparents,

Your children,

Grandchildren,

Brothers,

Sisters,

Aunts,

Uncles,

Friends,

Co-workers,

Neighbors,

Clients,

Ex-friends,

Ex-lovers,

Ex-spouses,

Everyone you have ever known.

And as you see them all gathered on the stage,

Notice that there's a shimmering thin cord that connects your forehead to each one of theirs.

Now focus in on one of these people on the stage.

Maybe it's someone whose energy has stuck with you,

Or perhaps it's someone who's been on your mind a lot lately.

Whoever that person is,

Ask them to come to the front of the stage.

And as they come to the front,

Take a moment to notice their features and remember them.

And then ask them the following question,

Do you fully support me in being my true authentic self and the best person I can be?

They may answer yes,

They may answer no,

But without judgment just listen to their answer.

Sometimes we have people in our lives we want the best for us and sometimes we have people who don't.

Whatever their answer is,

You can either thank them and send them on their way and invite someone else to come forward,

Or you can choose to cut the cord with them.

When you begin the cord cutting practice,

Look at this person and start to really think about them.

Who are they?

Where did they come from?

What's their history?

What challenges have they had?

What have they had to overcome in their lives?

How do you know them?

See them as the full person they are all the way back to childhood.

See their soul,

Recognize that they have had both negative and positive experiences that have shaped who they are.

Acknowledge that like everyone else,

They're doing the best they can with the information they have right now.

I want you to say to them,

I love you,

And then send feelings of love and compassion down the cords towards them.

Watch that love fill them up energetically.

Listen to them as they respond,

I love you,

Back,

And feel the feelings of love and compassion that they're sending towards you as well.

Feel that pure love fill your entire body.

Now say to them,

I forgive you.

Remember that you're not condoning anything they have done but simply releasing yourself from any resentment that you might carry.

Send the energy of forgiveness down the cord and watch it fill up their entire body.

Listen to them as they reply back,

I forgive you.

Feel that wonderful energy of forgiveness fill up your whole being and releasing you from anything negative you may have done or thought about them.

Now say to them,

I release you.

As you say these words,

Reach up to that cord that connects the two of you and cut it from your forehead.

Use whatever device you want,

A pair of scissors,

A sword,

Anything that comes to mind.

Cut the cord and watch it drop away from you and drift off into the ether.

And as that person is released from you,

Watch them easily and effortlessly float off into the distance.

And as they do,

Hear them say back to you,

I release you.

Watch them drift away.

You can choose to do this practice many times in a row with various people.

You can choose to do it anytime you feel that you've taken on someone else's energy or you think the connection between you and another person could use some cleansing.

Cutting cords with others does not sever the good ties we have with them.

It simply allows us to create space and peace for ourselves.

Now when you are ready,

Open your eyes,

Stretch your arms overhead and go back to your day feeling lighter and energetically cleansed.

This felt more like a talk than a guided meditation, but I found it immensely helpful. The visualisation is one of the most accessible I’ve found for Ho’oponopono. Thank you so much, I look forward to using this tool moving forward 🙏🌞🌻
