Mindfulness with Pets Practicing mindfulness with pets puts the meditator in a better mood,

Thus boosting our emotional and mental well-being.

Moreover,

This form of meditation adds color to our standard meditation routines and even improves the bonding between you and your pet.

Mindfulness isn't a formal meditation but more of an experience that can be done in the company of a pet.

A dog,

A cat,

A fish,

A mouse,

Come what may,

The animal doesn't have to be your own,

But it should be one who's familiar enough with you to be near you or better yet sitting in your lap or just being around you.

If you don't have a pet,

You can also visualize an image of a pet you had in the past,

An animal who is dear to you or a pet that you wish to have.

Let's begin.

You can take a few moments to get that pet near you.

You can pause this meditation and create a space which is comfortable for you as well as your pet.

Once you're done,

Sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths.

Let's begin by breathing in and breathing out.

Let's breathing again and breathe out.

Lastly,

Let's breathe in once again and breathe out slowly.

Observe the feeling that you get from this being wanting to be in your presence.

Notice what it feels like to be with this pet,

To be accepted exactly as you are.

This being isn't asking you to change anything about yourself.

It doesn't matter what you look like,

How successful you are or what mistakes you've supposedly made in your life in the past.

With this being,

In this moment,

You are 100% okay and beautiful exactly as you are.

If you're comfortable enough,

You can pat your pet.

If that's not possible,

It's okay.

You can just observe your pet very keenly.

Notice its colour.

Now does it look like?

Notice its texture.

Is it soft or is it hard?

As you're doing so,

Try to wonder where this being came from,

Its origins.

Which specific city?

What specific location?

Think about the time when you first saw them.

Think about the course of events that were happening.

Now think of some memory that you share with this being.

Maybe this being helped you calm down on a stressful day.

Maybe you loved spending a summer evening walking with them in the park.

Or maybe you just loved the simple act of cleaning,

Grooming and feeding them someday.

Maybe this being does something that you find extremely funny.

Think of some memories that you share with them that are close to your heart.

Great!

Let us come back to our breath and breathe in once again.

Noticing where we can feel our breath the most.

Hold on for a second and then breathe out.

Lastly if you could say something loving to your pet,

What would it be?

You could say things like I love your fur or you're my best buddy or you make me feel happy.

Try to say whatever comes up and try to say these words out loud.

Hope you enjoyed this experience.

Thank you.

Have a great day ahead and may you and your pet be happy.

What a beautiful experience! This was a wonderful way to reflect on my sweet Alley Cat who decided to curl up in my lap as I prepared to meditate. Thank you for this! πŸΎπŸ’•
