Perhaps the most accessible gateway to begin a meditation practice is through Mindfulness of Sound. Sounds are always happening in the present moment, they arise, change and dissolve. We cultivate a sense of spaciousness for sounds to arise without clinging, rejecting, or being distracted by them. Mindful Listening is an Embodied Listening. We don´t just hear with our ears, but we listen with our entire body. Being actively engaged in listening directly attunes us to the present moment.

Hi there,

I'm Kian Adamir from Mysore Yoga Paris.

These droplets designed to support you in your practice are a collaboration between myself and sound artist Jotam Agam.

They are best experienced listening with headphones.

Find a seat that feels balanced,

Offering yourself a wide,

Steady foundation.

The pubic bone drops,

Naturally awakening the heart.

You can allow your eyes to close or keep them half open but downcast towards the floor in front of you.

Allow your posture to hold the inner qualities of being grounded,

Awake and at ease.

Establish a simple sense of presence.

Take a moment to feel into your body and bring a kind attention to it.

Use the sense of gravity to anchor yourself in this moment,

Fully inhabiting your seat.

Fully inhabiting this human body.

And allow that experience of groundedness to awaken your natural alignment,

Creating a sense of space,

Uplift in your body and mind.

Releasing any tension around your eyes,

Feel the eyes widening into a smile,

Offering yourself a friendly inner gaze.

Unclench your jaw and soften your lips,

Allow a gentle smile to arise from the inside of your mouth.

This half smile of the Buddha connects us to a sense of ease,

Friendliness.

Bring a kind and gentle presence to this next breath.

Feel how your body is breathing.

Try not to control the breath in any way,

Instead allow the breath to be as natural as the wind.

Simply let your body be,

Breathe it all on its own.

Now gently widen your attention and allow your breath to naturally move into the background.

With the breath in the background,

We become receptive to sound.

The very distant sounds.

The close-in sounds.

The sounds in this room.

The sound of my voice.

We don't grasp or follow sounds,

They simply come,

Change and dissolve.

And when there are no sounds,

We listen to silence,

To the sound of stillness.

We do not create sounds.

We do not imagine sounds.

We let sounds come to us.

We let the world come to us.

We open to the natural soundscape of this moment.

We listen to the very music of our life.

Ears become deep.

Open to the entire field of sound.

Are the sounds outside you or are they inside?

Is the breath inside you or is it outside?

If your mind scatters into thoughts,

Separate objects tend to take form.

Naming,

Wording,

Storytelling.

With friendliness,

With kindness,

Simply re-relax open again.

Simply return to your body breathing and your ears receptive to sound.

Sounds or thoughts are not distractions,

They're just what's happening.

Sounds come through the field of awareness,

Change,

Dissolve.

Sounds come through the field of awareness,

Changes,

Dissolves.

Notice if you follow or go towards the sound or thought,

Grasping or rejecting.

Then re-relax open again,

Receptive,

Listening.

Not just with your ears but with your entire being.

Your entire body is experiencing sound.

We're not holding on to any particular sound,

They come,

They change and they dissolve.

Whenever you get lost,

Come back into your body breathing.

Feel your foundation,

Your seat,

Your legs.

The tingling sensations in your hands,

Your breath moving in your belly.

And once you're back in your body,

Open your awareness to sound and begin again.

Soundful listening.

Take a deep in breath.

Exhale fully.

As you gently open your eyes,

Take a moment to feel the space you're in.

Take a moment to feel your room and continue to be receptive to sound,

To space,

To the sensations in your body as you continue with your day.

Thank you for listening.
