Expressing gratitude is about showing your heartfelt appreciation. In this practice, the intention is to take time to notice and reflect upon the life you lead, as well as offer thanks to the people, places and environment that surround you.

Sit in a comfortable position.

Allow both soles of your feet to connect to the floor.

Rest your hands on your thighs and allow your shoulders to drop.

Gently close your eyes or look for a reference point somewhere on the floor where you can return your eyes when they get distracted.

Allow your spine to grow tall and noble like the trunk of a tree.

Bring your awareness to the flow of your breath.

Bring your attention to the flow of your breath.

You don't need to breathe in any special way.

Your body knows how to breathe.

Simply notice each breath coming into the body with an in-breath and leaving the body with an out-breath.

When you are ready,

See if you can bring awareness to something for which you are grateful.

You could be grateful for someone in your life,

A pet,

Something in nature,

Perhaps something personal you have achieved,

Or even the fact that you are breathing right at this moment.

Remember that gratitude emerges according to what is meaningful to you.

If multiple thoughts or images associated with gratitude arise,

See if you can rest your attention on one thing for which you are grateful.

Take a moment to notice the physical sensations you are experiencing as you focus on that for which you are grateful.

Now,

Let go of what you have chosen and simply stay with the experience of gratitude as it is felt in the body.

Now bring your attention back to the flow of your breath.

Allow each in-breath to be a new beginning and each out-breath a letting go.

When you are ready,

Slowly bring your attention back to your surroundings and let how you feel now guide you.
