This is a meditation on grief.

It takes courage to grieve,

To honor the pain we carry.

You can stand,

Sit or lay down,

Whichever is most convenient and comfortable for you at this moment.

To meditate on grief,

Let yourself sit alone or with a comforting person.

Create an atmosphere of support.

When you are ready,

Let your eyes close.

Begin by sensing your breath.

Feel your breathing.

Normal inhale and exhale.

You might want to take one hand and hold it gently on your heart,

As if you were holding a vulnerable human being.

Grief is one of the heart's natural responses to loss.

When we accept,

We allow ourselves to feel the truth of our pain.

It is the measure of betrayal or tragedy in our life.

We can grieve in tears or in meditative silence.

In touching the pain,

We come face to face with our genuine human vulnerability,

With helplessness and hopelessness.

Bring to mind the loss or pain you are grieving.

Let the story,

The images,

The feelings come naturally.

Hold them kindly.

Take your time.

Let the feelings come.

Let whatever feelings are there,

Pain and tears,

Anger and love,

Fear and sorrow,

Let them come as they will.

Touch them gently.

Let them unravel out of your body and mind.

Gently and kindly acknowledge whatever is showing up inside your thoughts,

Feelings,

Emotions,

Memories,

Sensations,

Energies.

Whatever emotions arise,

Judging and suppressing those emotions only increases them.

Sit with your entire being.

Embrace and process what is happening now.

Keep breathing softly,

Compassionately with a hand on your heart.

Keep in mind that grief doesn't just dissolve.

Instead it arises in waves.

Gradually,

With growing compassion,

There comes more resilience around it.

Along with meditation,

Some of your grief will want to be written,

To be cried out,

To be sung,

To be talked out.

Let the kindness and compassion within you carry you through grief and awaken a tender,

Open,

Compassionate and kind heart.

Next,

Slowly repeat these phrases silently.

May I be well,

Safe and peaceful.

May you be well,

Safe and peaceful.

May all beings on planet earth be well,

Safe and peaceful.

Feel the warmth of loving kindness and take it with you for the rest of your day.

Slowly bring your awareness back to your breath and your surroundings and then gradually open your eyes.
