There is a community in the mountains of Peru called Kunyak where they revere their river and sacred spring of the same name. Each year there is a ceremony when all the local folk gather to cleanse its course and worship its sacred waters. In the morning the spring is diverted at the source so that the river takes a new course leaving the riverbed exposed. Throughout the day the now dry riverbed is cleansed of debris and then blessed with flowers, offerings, prayers and incense. As the sun sets in the evening the source is released to flow once again down its now blessed course. As the crystal waters flow over the flowers and offerings in the twinkling setting sunlight, the community sing in praise of their beloved spring and river Kunyak.
