The following meditation comes from the book Mudras for Healing and Transformation by Joseph and Lillian LePage.
Today I would like to share with you the Hakini Mudra,
The gesture of the goddess Hakini.
This Hakini Mudra is especially helpful for instilling a sense of wholeness and integration,
Facilitating full yogic breathing,
Supporting overall health and healing,
And enhancing body awareness.
It's really about integration.
So the way you'll do it is you'll hold your hands facing each other in front of the solar plexus,
And then gently touch all the fingertips and thumbs to the same fingers on the opposite hand.
Hold the hands open and rounded as if holding a globe.
Relax the shoulders back and down with the elbows held slightly away from the body,
The forearms parallel to the earth,
And the spine naturally aligned.
So as you hold Hakini Mudra,
Take several natural breaths to attune to all the feelings and sensations awakened by this gesture.
Notice how each inhaling breath flows upward from the base of your body to your collar bones,
And how each exhalation smoothly descends,
Instilling a sense of relaxation and release throughout your entire being.
Take several breaths to sense this whole body breathing,
Naturally cultivating integration and harmony.
You'll enhance this integration by directing your breath into the various planes of your body,
Individually culminating in an experience of unity.
Begin by directing three breaths into the left side of your body,
Sensing how this left body breathing naturally awakens the receptive,
Intuitive aspect of your being.
Next,
Direct three breaths into the right side of your body,
Sensing how this right body breathing naturally awakens your active,
Dynamic polarity.
Now sense your breath flowing through both the left and right sides of your body evenly,
Integrating them as harmonious unity.
With the left and right integrated completely,
Now divide your body into front and back.
Begin by directing three breaths into the back of your body.
Sense how this allows you to attune to the subconscious dimension of your being,
Which holds the deep beliefs that underlie your thoughts and feelings.
And next,
Direct three breaths along the front of your body,
Attuning to the conscious aspects of your being,
The habits and qualities that make up your personality.
And now breathe the back and front of your body evenly,
Integrating subconscious and conscious as a seamless unity.
With left and right back and front planes integrated completely,
Divide your body into a lower part from the waist down and an upper part from the waist up.
Begin by directing three full breaths into the lower part of your body,
Creating a sense of grounding and stability,
Allowing you to feel completely present in your physical being.
Next,
Direct three full breaths into your upper body,
Allowing you to attune to the subtle dimensions of your being,
Opening a doorway to your inherent spiritual qualities.
Now breathe into your lower and upper body evenly,
Harmonizing the material and subtle dimensions of your being.
Finally,
Breathing fully and freely through your entire body,
Sensing left,
Right,
Back,
And front,
Bottom,
And top,
Integrated as a harmonious unity.
Affirm your integration as you repeat the following three times aloud or silently.
Through the integration of all areas of my body,
I experience complete harmony.
Through the integration of all areas of my body,
I experience complete harmony.
One last time,
Through the integration of all areas of my body,
I experience complete harmony.
Now slowly release the gesture,
Sensing complete integration.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes,
Returning slowly and gently with a greater sense of harmony.
