Over the course of a few minutes, ground yourself in your sobriety—no matter if you are new to recovery, or have been clean for decades. No matter if you are actively craving or the thought hasn't crossed your mind. This moment is yours.

Welcome to this brief sobriety meditation.

Find a comfortable position,

Sitting or lying down.

Close your eyes gently and take a deep breath in through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth.

Again,

Inhale deeply and exhale completely.

With each breath,

Allow your body to soften.

Let yourself arrive fully in this moment.

Bring your awareness to the ground beneath you.

Feel the weight of your body supported completely.

You don't need to hold yourself up right now.

Let the earth carry you.

Trust in that support.

Now gently notice your breath.

You don't need to change it.

Just feel it moving in and out.

Every inhale,

Life enters.

Every exhale,

A soft release.

With each breath,

Silently affirm,

I return to myself.

I choose freedom.

Again,

I return to myself.

I choose freedom.

If thoughts arise about the past,

About regrets or cravings,

Let them pass by like clouds drifting across the sky.

You don't have to chase them.

Just return to your breath.

Now bring to mind a moment when you felt proud of choosing sobriety.

Maybe it was small or maybe it was hard.

Feel the strength it took.

That same strength lives in you now.

Silently affirm,

I am stronger than my cravings.

I am NOT my mistakes.

I am worthy of healing.

Again,

I am stronger than my cravings.

I am NOT my mistakes.

I am worthy of healing.

Breathe in self compassion.

Exhale judgment.

Breathe in forgiveness.

Exhale shame.

Breathe in clarity.

Exhale confusion.

Sobriety is not just the absence of substances.

It is the presence of life itself.

It is waking up to yourself and to this moment.

Now imagine your future self.

Healthy,

Clear,

Strong,

Free.

See them standing before you,

Steady and at peace.

This version of you is already within you.

Becoming more real with each choice,

Each breath,

Each day that you continue to choose sobriety.

Silently repeat to yourself,

I am becoming who I was always meant to be.

I am becoming who I was always meant to be.

Stay with your breath a little longer,

Resting in this calm,

Grounded space.

Now begin to bring gentle movement back to your body,

Wiggling your fingers and toes.

Take one final,

Deep breath in,

Filling with strength and renewal.

Exhale fully,

Letting go of all that no longer serves you.

When you are ready,

Slowly open your eyes.

Carry this calm,

This clarity,

And this commitment with you and to the rest of your day.
