This is a 5-minute experiment in surrender. In this practice, you’ll notice something subtle but profound: experience is happening on its own. You can’t stop sounds from arising, thoughts from appearing, or sensations from moving through your body. Instead of trying to manage or control the moment, you’ll explore what it’s like to simply watch it unfold. A light, curious invitation to let life happen and to feel the relief in not needing to be in charge.

Alright,

So let's try a little experiment right now.

Very simple,

But can be very powerful.

So close your eyes if you're comfortable for the next couple of minutes.

And settle into your chair.

Cushion wherever you are.

Take a couple of nice deep breaths.

Breathing in through the nose.

And slowly out through the mouth.

So we're gonna try to stop things from happening.

So first,

Noticing your thoughts.

Whatever thoughts you have running around.

Popping up in your head about your to-do list.

Or about plans or the past or the future.

Dinner,

Lunch,

Breakfast,

Whatever.

See if you can just stop that thought.

What happens if you try and stop it?

And now noticing any emotions that you have in the moment.

Maybe you're feeling some excitement or anxiousness or maybe there's some tiredness,

Boredom.

A little bit of anger or frustration.

Whatever you're feeling right now.

Curiosity.

See if you can just somehow stop that emotion.

Tell it to stop.

And the same thing.

You can even try noticing your body now and trying the same thing here.

Your heart.

You might notice it's beating all on its own.

You're breathing all on your own.

And there are a million things happening in your body.

How can you really stop any of that from happening?

All of this is just happening on its own.

Your thoughts are popping up.

Your emotions are there.

Your feeling is there.

Discomfort or comfort or whatever.

Your heart is beating.

Your lungs are taking in oxygen.

And just by sitting here and really doing nothing,

It looks like you're doing nothing.

But in fact,

Everything around you,

Inside of you is constantly changing.

With or without your help.

Still continuing in a flow.

Like a river.

Like a stream.

Forward.

Any resistance to this just creates tension.

So see if you can just,

For this last minute of this short exercise,

Just allow all of it to be there.

Being aware of the thoughts.

Being aware of the emotions.

Being aware of the body as it does what it does.

The breath as it breathes itself.

And just appreciate that it's all simply out of your control.
