Welcome!
Today we're going to get our mind up for three good things.
By focusing on the good or positive things in our lives,
We can actually change the structure of our brains.
Focusing on the good can increase levels of dopamine,
Our feel-good chemical,
And decrease our levels of cortisol,
Which is our chemical related to stress.
What's really interesting about our brains is that we're wired with a negativity bias.
This means that we tend to view and make sense of the world using negative information far more than positive information.
This has helped us to survive,
But it's not always useful.
What's exciting is that we can actually train our brains to have a more positive lens.
Through practice,
We can release more dopamine and restructure our brains to scan for the positive.
With practice,
Seeing the positive becomes easier to do.
I would like to invite you to participate in an activity that can help us develop a more positive or optimistic mindset by participating in the three good things activity.
Please start by finding a comfortable position for your body.
You can sit in a chair or lie down somewhere comfortable.
Please just take a moment to get settled.
If you like,
You can close your eyes.
Now,
For the next few moments,
Bring your mind to something that made you smile today,
Even just a little.
Next,
Take a moment to focus on what went well today.
It can be something big or small.
For example,
Did the sunshine?
Did you eat something good?
Did you see some birds flying?
Did you spend time with someone in your life?
Please just focus on something that went well in your life today.
Now,
Please think about what made you giggle.
It may have been today or in the past.
Please just take a moment to focus on this thought.
Thank you for participating in this activity.
Please just take a moment to reflect on how you feel now.
Whatever you're feeling is fine.
We all have different reactions.
Just acknowledge the feeling.
By practicing this activity regularly,
We have the opportunity to get our minds up.
We can look for the good and start to scan the world for positive things.
This can increase our well-being and happiness.
