This is a beautiful prayer of forgiveness. Not the usual blurbing of forgiveness of another for something you consider they have done or not done, this is a prayer of ASKING for forgiveness! For all the things you have done or contributed to, knowingly or unknowingly. For all your ancestors have done. For the complaining of our homes, our bodies, our family. For our Earth, our wonderful Mother, and all we have done to her, knowingly and unknowingly. A beautiful prayer...

The word ho'oponopono roughly means to move back in balance in the sense of life.

Pono means balance.

In the Hawaiian dictionary it is defined as mental cleansing,

Family conferences in which relationships were set right through prayer,

Discussion,

Confession,

Repentance and mutual restitution and forgiveness.

To put to rights,

To put in order or shape,

Correct,

Revise,

Adjust,

Amend,

Regulate,

Arrange,

Rectify,

Tidy up,

Make orderly or neat.

It is traditionally practiced by healers or priests or the most senior members of the family.

This practice can be used to restore family harmony and in the book Look to the Source by Mary Pukai she says the process begins with prayer.

A statement of the problem is made and the transgression discussed.

Family members are expected to work problems through and cooperate,

Not hold fast to the fault.

One or more periods of silence may be taken for reflection on the entanglement of emotions and injuries.

Everyone's feelings are acknowledged.

Then confession,

Repentance and forgiveness takes place.

Everyone releases,

Kala,

Each other,

Letting go.

They cut off the past,

Oki and together they close the event with a ceremonial feast called pani which often included eating limu kala or kala seaweed,

Symbolic of the release.

Oftentimes we blame everybody else for everything that happens in our world but this practice is to recognize where we are at fault and take responsibility for it.

Sometimes we are guilty and not even aware.

Sometimes our guilt and shame is ancestral but it is said that to chant this prayer is a powerful way to cleanse the body of guilt or bad feelings that keep the mind fixated.

Mauna Simeona,

An Hawaiian healer,

Says if we can accept that we are the sum total of all past thoughts,

Emotions,

Words,

Deeds and actions and that our present lives and choices are colored or shaded by this memory bank of the past,

Then we begin to see how a process of correcting or setting a right can change our lives,

Our families and our society.

The short version of the prayer is simply,

I'm sorry,

Please forgive me,

Thank you,

I love you.

Some people just repeat this mantra over and over but I believe in intention.

The intention behind something changes the energy so rather than just mindlessly repeating words whilst possibly thinking about something else,

You deliberately intend something behind the words.

The prayer given to us by Mauna Simeona has been adopted and modified to fit the modern day.

It is very simple but nonetheless powerful.

I have very slightly changed some words.

I have very slightly changed some words.

This prayer is my heart to yours.

If I,

My family,

Relatives or my ancestors have offended you,

Your family,

Relatives or ancestors in thoughts,

Words,

Deeds or actions from the beginning of our creation to the present,

I ask for your forgiveness.

Let this prayer cleanse,

Purify and release.

Cut all the negative memories,

Blocks,

Energies and vibrations and transmute these unwanted energies between us to pure light.

And so it is.

To clear my subconscious of all emotional charge,

Starting it when I say and any time during the day the key words of Ho'oponono.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

I'm grateful.

I declare myself at peace with all the people on the earth and with whom I have outstanding debts with for this moment and through all time.

I release all those from whom I believe I am receiving harm and mistreatment because they simply give me back what I gave to them in some past life.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

I am grateful.

Although it is difficult for me to forgive someone,

It's me who asks for the forgiveness of that someone now.

For now and at all times.

For everything I do not like in my present life,

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

I'm grateful.

For this sacred place,

My body,

My home that I manage day by day and with which I am not comfortable,

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

I'm grateful.

For the difficult relationships of which I have only kept bad memories,

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

I'm grateful.

For all that I do not like,

Discontent in my present life,

In my past life,

In my work and in what is around me.

Divinity cleaning me what is contributing to my scarcity.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

I'm grateful.

If my physical body experiences anxiety,

Worry,

Guilt,

Fear,

Sadness,

Pain,

And I speak and think my memories,

I love you.

I am grateful for the opportunity to release you and me.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

I'm grateful.

I'm grateful.

Right now I affirm that I love you.

I think of my emotional health and that of all my loved ones.

Help me to learn to wait without anxiety and without fear.

I acknowledge all my memories here at this moment.

I'm sorry.

I love you.

This is my contribution to the healing of the earth,

Beloved Mother Earth.

If I,

My family,

My relatives and ancestors mistreated you with thoughts,

Words,

Facts and actions from the beginning of our creation to the present moment,

I ask your forgiveness.

Let it clear and purify,

Release and cut all the negative memories,

Blockages,

Energies and vibrations.

Transpute these undesirable energies into pure light.

And so it is.

In conclusion,

I say that this prayer is my door,

My contribution to your emotional health,

Which is the same as mine.

So be well.

And as you heal,

I say that I am sorry for the painful memories I share with you.

I ask your forgiveness for uniting my path to yours for healing.

I thank you for being here in me.

I love you for being who you are.

The prayer given to us by Mona Simeona,

A beautiful prayer for healing,

For you,

For me and for the earth.

Thank you.

I love you.

You
