In this meditation, we focus on balancing the flow of energy through the seven main chakras or energy centers of the body. To harmonize the flow of energy, we chant the chakra bija mantras. Bija mantras produce vibrations that stimulate specific points and energy centers on the body to open up and release blocked energies. A short introduction to chakras and bija mantras is given at the beginning to make this mantra-chanting meditation suitable for everyone.

Welcome to Finding Balance Within,

A chakra mantra chanting meditation.

In this meditation,

We focus on the flow of energy through the seven main chakras or energy centers of the body.

These seven main chakras run along the spine,

Starting at the root or base of the spine and extending all the way to the crown of the head.

Each chakra corresponds with different organs,

Emotions and areas of our life and identity.

And in this meditation,

We are going to use bija mantras.

Bija means seed and it is believed that bija mantras contain the essence or the seed energy of what they are referring to.

We will be chanting chakra bija mantras.

As bija mantras are primarily energetic in nature,

Their vibration stimulates specific points and energy centers on the body to open up and release blocked energies and bring the seven chakras back into balance.

However,

You do not have to remember everything that is said here in order for the bija mantras to have an impact.

Also,

You are invited to chant along.

But even if that is currently not accessible to you because you want to remain quiet or for some other reason,

Just by listening and silently chanting,

You can also access the transformational power of bija mantras.

Mantras are primarily chanted and heard with the heart.

So,

This is your invitation to let go of what you or I sound like.

To let go of any expectations on the chanting process.

And listen with your heart and let it receive the healing energy of chanting and meditation.

I will explain everything along the way,

So if you've never heard of bija mantras before or if you've never heard of chakras before,

You don't have to worry.

For now,

Find a comfortable sitting position,

Keeping your eyes closed or keeping a soft gaze,

Looking at something neutral like the wall or the floor.

With the next inhale,

Elongate the spine and open up your chest.

And with the exhale,

Relax the shoulders away from your ears.

And let's take a couple of deep breaths.

With every inhale,

Fill up your belly,

Your lungs.

And on the exhale,

Feel free to sigh out and release any left tension,

Anything that is no longer serving you,

Anything that no longer belongs to you.

With every exhale,

Feel free to release.

Releasing the tension.

Releasing the thoughts.

Releasing expectations,

Judgment.

After the last exhale,

Feel free to allow your breath to flow naturally once again.

And gently bring your awareness to your spine.

Notice your posture and notice the space your spine is forming.

The curves it's taking.

Before we begin with chanting,

We will once go through the chakras in our body,

Noticing the area in your body where each chakra is and the corresponding bija mantra.

The first chakra,

Muladhara,

Is located at the base of your spine and its corresponding bija mantra is LAM.

The second chakra,

Svadhisthana,

Located just below the belly button.

Its bija mantra is VAM.

Then we have third chakra,

Manipura,

Located in your solar plexus.

Corresponding bija mantra is RAM.

Then we have the fourth chakra,

Anahata,

The heart space,

Located in your chest.

Bija mantra,

YAM.

Fifth chakra,

Visuddha,

Located in the throat area with the corresponding bija mantra HAM.

Then we have the sixth chakra,

Ajna,

Located between your eyebrows.

And lastly,

The seventh chakra,

Sahasrara,

The crown of your head.

Bija mantra here is a silent OM.

This bija mantra is not vocal,

Rather,

It is the sound of silence as we focus on this area of the body.

I will now chant one cycle of all the bija mantras to show you how this sounds like.

After a complete exhale,

We inhale deeply LAM VAM RAM YAM HAM OM.

And as you chant each of these bija mantras,

Focus on the area of the chakra the mantra is referring to.

So for example,

As you chant LAM,

You are going to focus on the base of your spine where the root chakra is,

VAM,

Lower abdomen,

And so on.

So you are slowly going to move from the base of your spine,

Through your spine,

All the way to the crown of your head,

Finishing in the seventh chakra.

This is where the silence is.

I invite you now to chant along with me.

We will perform five rounds,

After which we will have a couple of moments in silence to really observe and notice the effects of these vibrations within us.

LAM VAM RAM YAM HAM OM LAM VAM RAM YAM HAM OM LAM VAM RAM YAM HAM OM Slowly start to check in with yourself and notice how you feel.

Notice the body,

The sensations.

Notice your posture.

Notice your spine and notice what's different than from the beginning.

Now slowly come back to your breath.

Once again,

Breathe deeply into your body.

Maybe starting to move your fingers,

Your toes.

Maybe stretching in any way that feels comfortable.

In the next couple of breaths,

Blink your eyes open,

Slowly coming back to the room you're in.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

Namaste.
