Equilibrium can refer to balance, but also to different states being equalized. For instance, the cabin pressure of aircraft is much greater when cruising at altitude than the air outside, where the air is too thin to breathe. In a similar way, we can all experience internal pressure when we’re under stress. This can be in our body with physical tension and muscle tightness; in our mind with mental agitation and restless thoughts, or with emotions, where we experience unsettling, emotional turbulence. Try this practice to help recover you equilibrium and see what difference that makes. Find somewhere undisturbed, sit in a comfortable, dignified and upright posture where you can remain alert and aware. Then close your eyes while this meditation plays.

Bell Bringing yourself into this moment by connecting with your body.

Aware of the weight of your body on the chair and the pressure of your feet on the floor.

Sensing the warmth of your body.

Noticing your body breathing.

And gently following your breath for a few moments.

Following the full in-breath and full out-breath.

And if you notice that your mind has wandered off in thought.

Congratulating yourself for noticing and gently bringing your attention back to following the breath.

And as you exhale allowing any tension and tightness in your body to relax and release.

And any agitation in your mind to settle.

So let's begin exploring equilibrium by asking yourself what's going on for me now inside in this moment.

Taking your time to properly check in with yourself.

Maybe noticing some physical tension and tightness.

Some mental agitation and restlessness.

Simply acknowledging any thoughts that arise and being non-judgmental.

As you do this noticing but not following up on any self-critical or worrying thoughts.

Maybe there's some emotional turbulence around like you get in an aircraft as it goes through an area of turbulence.

Buffeting you and your seat.

If you're finding this then just allowing your feelings to be just as they are.

Using kindness and self-compassion.

And becoming aware of the whole of your body from the soles of your feet to the palms of your hands.

Sensations of your face to the top of your head.

Feeling fully embodied,

Energised and alive.

Aware of the space that your body takes up and the space around you in the room.

Opening your hearing to sounds in the room.

And extending your awareness to sounds outside.

Right out to the most distant sound you can hear.

And resting there at the limit of your sense of hearing.

Open to the silence that rests beneath the sounds.

As sounds emerge,

Play out and dissolve back into silence.

See if you can rest in that silence.

And connecting with a sense of stillness that rests beneath all movement.

Activity begins,

Plays out and comes back to rest in stillness.

See if you can connect with that stillness underneath all movement.

Sensing the space behind all things.

And connecting with that space.

And resting in that silence,

Stillness and space that's all around you.

And allowing the outside space and stillness to become equal with what you're experiencing inside.

As if opening a valve to release and equalise the pressure that you feel inside yourself with the outside world.

Feeling the peace and stillness flowing into you.

As if the boundary between the inside and outside is dissolving.

Letting go of holding on.

Releasing tension and tightness.

Allowing held feelings to dissolve.

And your mind to settle.

Your body as stable and grounded as a mountain.

Your feelings flowing and fluid like the ocean.

Your mind like a clear open sky.

And maybe taking this practice into your day and seeing what difference it makes.

Thank you for watching!

Great voice that even my cat liked. She was purring through the entire meditation which was a great anchor.
