Equilibrium Meditation
by Paul Riches
Equilibrium can refer to balance, but also to different states being equalized. For instance, the cabin pressure of aircraft is much greater when cruising at altitude than the air outside, where the air is too thin to breathe. In a similar way, we can all experience internal pressure when we’re under stress. This can be in our body with physical tension and muscle tightness; in our mind with mental agitation and restless thoughts, or with emotions, where we experience unsettling, emotional turbulence. Try this practice to help recover you equilibrium and see what difference that makes. Find somewhere undisturbed, sit in a comfortable, dignified and upright posture where you can remain alert and aware. Then close your eyes while this meditation plays.
