Things aren't okay,

But I am okay.

Relieve anxiety meditation.

Breathing naturally,

Not too light,

Not too deeply,

Hold yourself with your awareness.

Gently letting that mental knowingness guide your breath into your lungs and through your nose and back again through your mouth.

Here is this beautiful function that does not tend to cease in a lifetime,

That is always taking care of itself.

The breath,

It's the closest thing along with the beating of our hearts to the certainty of the seasons or the lowering and increasing of the tides.

That is why this simple act of becoming aware of our breath,

Not trying to change it or ourselves is such a wonderful metaphor and reminder of trusting the rhythms of our life without needing to control them.

If you had to consciously control your breathing,

You'd be in trouble.

Maybe it's true of your life as well.

If you had to control every part of it,

You'd grow weary,

Burnt out and dead tired.

Sound familiar?

You'd probably fall apart.

How good it is,

Even when things in your life aren't so good,

To remember the breath.

To remember there are other things at work from circadian rhythms to cycles of the sun to divine mysteries,

All at work in your life.

So much so that the conscious you,

This you,

You think are doing this meditation can release herself from the talons of her life for a moment and see who she is,

Not as a victim of today's conditions,

But of her powerful life and spirit.

It's a powerful thing to say when things are tough.

Things aren't okay,

But I am okay.

Things aren't okay,

But I'm okay.

Repeat that to yourself.

Things aren't okay,

But I am okay.

Things aren't okay,

But I am okay.

Things aren't okay,

But I'm okay.

Things are crazy,

But I am sane.

Things are crazy,

But I am sane.

Feel your awareness set itself free from crazy.

The crazy of a drama,

The crazy of a relationship,

The crazy of all that you think you have to do or get done.

I am the calm in the storm.

I am a light in the dark.

When all is forgotten,

I remember.

I am a calm in the storm.

I am a light in the dark.

When all is forgotten,

I remember.

No matter how dark something may seem,

No matter how much you may be forgetting the truth of who you really are,

Simply taking time just like this,

Not to escape,

But to retreat into yourself reverently.

You realize you are not exiting,

But entering a grander perspective,

A deeper connection,

And resetting your feet on the foundation of the real principles in which you choose to live your life.

Things aren't okay,

But I am okay.

My relationship may not be okay,

But I am okay.

My work may not be okay,

But I am okay.

Society may be imploding,

But I'm not imploding.

The key to living a conscious life is this.

Things will go wrong.

Things will be wrong.

Things will occur.

Negative emotions will happen.

All of this is true,

But the danger is when instead of possessing your problems,

You let them possess you.

By actually admitting what isn't okay,

Seeing it,

Looking it in the eye,

You have taken the first step in owning what is yours to own and seeing that it isn't all of who you are.

Things aren't okay,

But I am okay.

Remember this creed throughout your day,

In a difficult moment,

When you forget your own breath,

When things clearly aren't all right.

Things aren't okay,

But I am okay.

Such a powerful message, especially during this horrible time when it feels like, and looks like, and sounds like Evil is in charge, destroying everything good, and that nothing will ever be okay again. To be reminded to let go and trust that "all is well; and all shall be well; and all manner of things will be well" is a blessing and a beautiful gift. And I am truly grateful. Peace be with you. --April 4, 2025
