Hi,
Welcome to this insight meditation.
Take some time right now to get comfortable.
Doesn't matter if you're sitting or lying down,
Just somewhere that feels good to you,
Where you can relax and be uninterrupted.
Try to release any tension or thoughts that are bogging you down,
Any stress from the day or anything that you're worrying about,
And just try to clear your mind.
Okay,
Are you comfortable?
Great.
Now let's begin.
Just to get started,
I'm just going to ask you to take one deep breath,
Counting to seven.
Breathe in.
Breathe in.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven.
Hold for three.
One,
Two,
Three,
And release fully.
Great job.
Okay,
Now we're going to go on a little adventure.
We're going to go back in time and visit somebody very,
Very special.
You.
Not you right now,
But you as a child.
I want you to think about yourself as a small child.
It doesn't really matter what age.
Try imagining this little girl or boy.
What do they look like?
What is their personality?
What makes them happy or sad?
Are they funny or serious?
Be curious,
But try not to judge anything as bad or good.
Just observe and be open.
Do you see them?
What are they doing?
What's the location that they are in?
Imagine you're in that location as well.
Not just looking into a window at them,
But actually in the same location.
Now I want you to think about walking up to this child version of yourself.
How would you introduce yourself?
How would you approach them so they knew you were a friend?
What might you say?
Okay,
Now,
Go ahead and do this.
Walk up to them in whatever way is natural to you.
Try to make them feel comfortable and safe.
You got this.
Don't be afraid.
After all,
This is you as a child.
What a precious and amazing opportunity.
Okay,
Now that you've met,
What are you doing?
What are you doing?
Did you decide to go for a walk or just sit and talk?
There are no wrong answers.
Only you know what that child may need,
And I don't want you to be worried about this interaction being perfect.
Just be open,
Be vulnerable,
And just ask questions of this child,
Of yourself.
Spend some much-needed quality time with them.
Remember,
This exercise is for insight.
So be curious and just really listen and observe.
Okay,
Now it is time to let them know you need to go,
But that you will definitely be back.
Maybe let them know how amazing and beautiful and smart and funny and whatever else you observed they are.
Let them know how much you enjoyed meeting them and spending some time with them.
Remember,
You can come back here anytime and visit again,
So this is not goodbye.
Travel back to present time and come back to yourself.
What was that like for you?
Did you get any insights into that child?
What did you talk about?
Did you notice anything that surprised you?
Did you notice that when speaking to yourself as a child,
Your words were gentler than maybe they are when you speak to yourself as an adult?
Were they more supportive and kind and loving?
Usually that's the case.
For some reason,
When we speak to a child,
We're a little more careful with what we say and how we say it.
As you leave this insight meditation,
I want you to think about how you speak to yourself every day.
Do you speak with unkind words?
Are you supportive or do you criticize?
Do you tell yourself that you are not smart or funny or good?
Do you focus on your flaws instead of seeing all that is amazing?
Just really think about the words you use when you speak to yourself every single day.
When you start your day,
Every time you notice yourself speaking in an unkind way,
Imagine you are speaking to that precious child that you just met today.
Imagine how that would change the words you use and how you would want to encourage,
Support,
And build up that child.
Do you have any advice for those who are struggling with this?
That child is you.
You are so beautiful.
You are deserving of this love,
This unconditional love.
So worthy and amazing.
Believe that because it is the truth.
So,
I hope that you have a great day.
