To cultivate an awakening mind means to turn towards present moment experience, as an expression of acceptance. This guided practice is an invitation pointing to the possibility of resting within the qualities of nowness. Stop a moment, tune in to where and how you really are.

Embracing the panorama of the human condition,

What do you feel?

Embracing the possibility of opening to the world,

To the whole universe.

This is awakening mind.

Turning towards the possibility of everything dropping away and resting right here,

In open clarity.

This is awakening mind.

Resting right here inside the body-mind,

The body-heart,

Allowing the attention to drift gently down to the feet.

To sense the support of the ground,

From which the body extends,

Following its natural curves,

Softening as best you can,

And resting right here.

Allowing your physical self to agree with gravity,

To sink towards the earth,

To be present in the sinking,

To embrace it as an awakening,

As an invitation,

As an invitation to connect fully with present moment experience.

And if possible,

To tether this awareness,

This awakening to some aspect of nowness.

May that be the aliveness of the breath,

As you experience it,

In your own genuine and sincere way,

Without manipulating the breath in any way,

But rather attending to the ebb and flow,

The qualities of breathing,

The temperature of the air as it enters the body,

And as it leaves,

Noticing that there may be a tendency to compare and get into discourse and the conceptualization of breathing,

And while including that in experience,

Gently guiding the attention back to the very simple experience of stillness,

Of hereness,

Presence,

Being with this,

Being this,

And only this.

Sometimes the wind blows,

And sometimes the sun shines,

The breath comes and goes,

From moment to moment,

From this to that,

We tend to our reality,

Cultivating an awakening mind,

A clear mind,

An open mind,

And a genuine heart.

We embrace distractedness as the path of awakening itself,

And we stay as best we can.

We make our way back when we get lost,

Resting in the return.

From moment to moment,

From breath to breath,

Right here,

Right now,

This is awakening mind.
