Welcome to Origins Curriculum guided meditation.
We are so glad you are here.
Before we begin,
We invite you to find a quiet space to settle your body.
We suggest a space that is peaceful and grounding,
One that creates a calming environment.
After we have found a comfortable space,
We sit and allow our minds to slow down in our bodies to find a rhythm with our breath.
We inhale through our nose and exhale through our mouth.
We take some time to tune in with ourselves,
Relaxing our legs,
Our arms and shoulders,
Our neck,
Face,
Jaw,
And forehead,
Releasing further with each breath.
This week,
We will continue to reflect upon who we are and the I am statements that we use to express ourselves.
We will also look at how these statements and perceptions are influenced by the broader community or by our friends and families.
We will deconstruct who we are and in turn,
Reveal our similarities.
Before we begin,
Take some time to jot down 10 I am statements and keep them close by.
You can pause this meditation now and continue when you're ready.
If you need any assistance or guidance in creating these I am statements,
Please ask an adult or someone near you.
Let's begin our practice.
Looking down at the I am statements we wrote,
We contemplate the pieces we've gathered that may have added to our identity since birth.
Maybe we learned to play and love basketball,
And now we see ourselves as an athlete.
Maybe we learned how to draw still lifes,
And now we view ourselves as an artist.
When we were born,
We came into this world naked,
Seeking nurturing and warmth from our mothers and those closest to us.
When we came into this world,
We didn't identify with being an athlete or an artist.
Quite frankly,
We didn't identify with much at all.
We were content just being and we didn't question who we were.
We are all born with an inner knowing and over time,
Doubt and shame from painful experiences can weaken this knowing.
It's our job to empower and free ourselves and to practice remembering.
With this in mind,
Please cross off any I am statements that you have gathered stretching from the time you were born until now.
Leave only the I am statements that you have identified with since you were born.
Those that are a reflection of your truest nature.
As we cross statements off our list,
We begin to see how little we actually needed in order to be satisfied and taken care of as a child.
We needed love,
Food,
Warmth and shelter,
Of course,
But we didn't need a list of statements to validate our worth or importance.
Now please repeat these.
We are statements after me.
We are created and born.
We are skin and flesh and bone and blood and organs.
Repeat.
We are created and born.
We are skin and flesh and bone and blood and organs.
And we are sight,
Touch,
Taste,
Smell and sound.
We are interconnected.
We are matter.
We are energy.
We are human.
We can add new I am or we are statements to our general list at this time or we can breathe into the conclusion of our meditation.
To conclude our meditation,
We'll place a hand on our hearts and a hand on our bellies and breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth.
With a grateful heart and an open mind,
We can continue with our day.
Namaste.
The light in me sees the light in you.
We thank you for meditating with us.
