We're going to practice a meditation on grounding and opening to the environment.
So sit in a way that helps you be awake and at ease.
Maybe lengthen the spine a little bit,
Tuck in the chin a little bit,
Maybe soften the belly.
And if standing or lying down is more appropriate for you,
Then go ahead and do that.
We'll start by inviting three sounds of the bell and see if it's possible to just let the attention rest in listening to the bell.
The mind might want to wander,
If it does so,
No worries,
Just invite it back to listening.
The mind might want to wander,
If it does so,
No worries,
Just invite it back to listening.
And invite your attention to rest in the sensation of the body resting on the ground.
So feeling the contact points between perhaps your legs and buttocks and feet and cushion or a chair or just your feet if you're standing or the whole length of the body if you're lying down,
Feel the heaviness of that contact point,
All those contact points.
And see if you can let the body be just a little heavier,
Let go just a little more into a sense of being held,
No need to hold ourselves up.
And then see if you can invite into your awareness the sense of the edges of the body,
The spot where clothes touch skin or air touches skin.
Notice the different temperatures where there's more pressure or easefulness or numbness.
See if you can fill into the edges of the body.
Finally welcome in the sensations of this in-between zone where air enters the body and leaves the body,
The sensations of breathing.
In the nostrils,
Through the windpipe,
Into the chest.
There's also the feeling of the diaphragm expanding and releasing all these sensations of breath.
If we were at a microscopic level,
Maybe we could even see the oxygen molecules being absorbed into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide being released so that there's not even exactly a clear line that separates this body from the rest of the environment.
So in this fullness of being for the last few breaths just play with the blurriness of the edges between body and everything else.
