Welcome to this unhooking exercise.
As we begin,
I want you to get settled in your chair with your feet flat on the floor.
Within this guided unhooking exercise,
You can choose to leave your eyes open or closed.
I prefer to have mine closed,
But whatever feels good to you,
Lean into that.
As we get started,
Let's take a few deep breaths.
Breathing in,
And then breathing out.
Perhaps placing a hand on your belly and a hand on your chest.
Breathe in,
And breathe out.
One more time.
Breathe in,
And breathe out.
Allow your hands to fall onto your lap.
Again,
Your feet flat on the floor.
I want you to envision all the perceptions,
All the assumptions,
All of the stories that you are believing that others think about you or that you are thinking about them.
I want you to picture each of these things as a string hooked into your torso.
Whether that's a belief that someone's upset with you,
A fear that you said the wrong thing.
Whatever it may be,
Just envision that string with a hook on the end connected in to your torso.
As you're thinking about all of these stories,
All of these beliefs,
I want you to raise your hands up and begin to unhook and hand back each string.
Physically making the movements with your hands.
Unhook from your torso and hand it back.
Unhook and hand it back.
Reaching your arms out,
Unhook and hand back.
Breathing in and out as you unhook and hand back.
Breathe in as you unhook and breathe out as you hand back.
This energy does not belong to you.
These stories are not yours to hold.
Through this process,
We're reestablishing your energetic boundaries,
Allowing those stories to belong to who they belong to and not to you.
What others think about you belongs to them,
Not to you.
If someone needs something from you,
They can ask.
Continue this journey of unhooking and handing back until you feel complete,
Not forgetting to breathe as you do so.
Unhook and hand back.
Unhook and hand back.
Once you feel complete,
I want you to cross your legs at the ankles.
Allow your hands to fold in your lap and your tongue to rest gently on the roof of your mouth.
These actions are actions of boundary setting,
Of holding your own energy,
A reminder that you are your own.
Breathe into that.
You are your own.
As we bring this exercise to a close,
I want you to think of the emotion you desire to feel leaving this practice.
Is that confidence,
Peace,
Groundedness?
Breathe into that emotion.
Allow yourself to be fully present with you,
With who you desire to be.
The stories,
The emotions of others,
Those are not yours.
If your eyes are closed,
Begin to open them.
Unfold your hands,
Shake out any remaining energy that needs to be released.
Take up space.
You have established your energetic boundaries and now you are free to stretch out.
Free to be you.
Thank you for showing up for you today.
I see you.
I honor you.
I am so here for it.
