
Air Element
All the elements of life are available to us, in every moment. We are made of these elements; they are part and parcel of the Oneness we are. The air element acts as a cleanse and an opening—air naturally cleans out the dusty corners of our psyche and our body. Feel aired out and renewed with this 36-minute meditation.

Welcome everyone.
Please relax,
Get really comfortable.
We're going to spend a little time feeling into the quality of air that we're all surrounded by and is infused inside of us.
The saying,
What's looking is what you're looking for is one of my favorite sayings because what's looking,
We could call it pure consciousness,
Awareness,
Subjectivity.
It's that which is looking.
It's also that which is feeling,
That which tastes,
That which hears.
It's not a separate self.
It's not a person that experiences.
It's actually pure immortal consciousness or what's looking.
And that pure consciousness that's listening to me right now that is infused in everything,
Has every quality.
It has everything in it.
And so when we need something,
Love,
Peace,
Or one of the qualities of the elements like air,
Water,
Fire,
We can go to what's looking.
We can go to our very selves with a capital S.
So for right now,
Just be aware of awareness itself,
Aware of that which is looking.
Turn consciousness back on itself.
Just look,
Feel,
Hear me.
You don't have to do anything.
You don't have to understand this.
It's not for the mind.
You're just aware of that which is receiving everything,
The background of it all.
Notice that this background consciousness,
This awake awareness,
See if you can find with your eyes closed and nice and relaxed,
See if you can find an end to this consciousness.
It's not your mind.
It's that which sees the mind.
Does that which is listening to me right now,
Not the mind,
Does that pure awareness,
Does it stop at the body?
Or is it everywhere?
Pure consciousness permeates everything.
It's what everything is made of.
It's the background to all things,
Including you.
And it's awake.
It's conscious.
Everything has consciousness in it.
So this consciousness that exists in everything is a lot like air.
We don't always notice it,
But it's very light.
It's in everything.
It's refreshing.
One of the places that we don't notice this pure consciousness is in is our body.
Let's take a moment to feel into the body,
Which is to bring some air into the room.
It's like opening up the windows of your house and airing it out.
And let's start with the top of the head.
Just feel the top of your head.
Feel the hair follicles and the skin.
Feel underneath the skin into the skull and the water layer before the brain.
This awareness can go right into the body like this,
Just like air can come right in through the front door.
So feel into your brain from the top of your head and feel that your top of your head is airing out,
Like it's a window,
A skylight that's lifted all the way open.
Just feeling the top of your head opens it up.
Our bodies generally have been deeply neglected.
Most of this awareness,
This refreshing awareness,
This attentiveness,
This consciousness hasn't gone to the body.
It's gone to the mind,
Gone to thought,
Which is fine,
But it's like a house that's kind of stagnant.
It's got a lot of clutter in it,
So we need to air it out and open it up,
Every one of us.
So feel the whole top of the head just lift off,
Lift up,
And move to the back of the head as well,
Where there's a curve in the back of the head,
Which is the very back of your eyes.
They connect all the way in the back there by the brainstem.
Feel through the skull,
Feel into the brain,
Feel through the hair follicles,
Through the skin,
And just feel like there's air moving through there because just being aware of it,
Just feeling it,
Is opening it up.
It's refreshing.
And you can feel that.
You can feel there's an opening.
As we come into the body,
The body may want to stretch or move.
So if you find yourself trying to stretch your neck or move your head or just breathe out,
Stretch your head up and down,
Or whatever the body wants to do as we move through it,
Feel free to do that.
It's a very natural process.
It's like a stagnant energy coming out of the windows.
Opening up all these windows and doors.
Let's feel the front of the head now and the forehead,
Into the sinuses,
Into the eyes,
Into the eye sockets.
Feel the quality of airiness,
The quality of refreshment that comes with just bringing awareness,
Just feeling into your sinuses,
Behind your eyes,
The eyeballs themselves,
The temples,
The cheekbones,
The roof of the mouth.
Feel that the roof of the mouth is made of air.
The top of the head,
The front of the forehead,
The roof of the mouth,
The cheeks,
The nose,
The eyes,
That they're all being refreshed and aired out.
That air is flowing through your sinuses,
Flowing through your nose and your nostrils,
Flowing through as you breathe through your nose.
It refreshes and opens the nasal cavity every time.
Feel the back of your throat and the hinge of your jaw.
Really feel inside the hinge of the jaw and feel that the jaw itself down into the chin,
The teeth,
The tongue,
The flesh of the face,
The skin.
Feel that the whole head now,
The brain,
The skull,
The face,
The back of the head,
The middle of the head,
Deep,
Deep,
Deep behind the eyes,
The pineal gland that is the center of your third eye.
Feel that that's made of air.
Feel it refreshed.
Feel like warm or cool winds are flowing through your head,
Front to back and top to bottom.
All the windows and doors are open.
We are open systems.
We are made of air.
We are made of space.
We are made of light.
We are made of dark.
We're made of all the elements,
All of everything.
Made of the same electromagnetism and chemistry as the whole world,
The whole universe.
And it's combined in this unique way with you,
But some of these qualities haven't been pointed out.
So today really feel this airiness,
This refreshment.
Like there is a gentle breeze moving through the head because there is.
You might even feel that you're somewhat headless,
That there's just air moving through here.
In a very,
Very core way we are.
We are not solid stuff.
There's no solidity the closer and closer we get to things.
So sense that for a moment.
Feel all the way inside your head and see if you can find anything solid as you feel it.
You can't.
It feels more like air.
Great.
Feel for that airiness of the head where the head was.
It's just this refreshing breeze.
See if you can feel that inside your neck now.
Letting the neck be soft and open.
Opening all those windows out the back by the spine.
Consider each vertebrae like a window and in between the vertebrae is like a window.
Open,
Open,
Open.
The front of the neck,
The throat,
All the way down to where the neck meets the collarbone.
Just wide open.
Pure consciousness can be aware of the inside of the neck and the outside of the neck.
Feel how the air breezes through from the air in the room,
Into the neck,
Through the back of the neck,
And into the air in the room again.
Feel how your neck is made of air.
Completely open.
Especially feel it out the back of the neck,
And then feel how that's connected to the back of the head.
The whole back of the neck and head are nice and open,
Like air coming through.
Good.
Start to feel into your shoulders,
The tops of your shoulders,
And the shoulder blades.
Feel,
And even you might be able to see,
That any weight on the shoulders just lifts off.
We all have the equivalent of sandbags on our shoulders.
Most of us do.
Carrying a lot of weight.
You can feel it just lift off.
The areas of heaviness are the areas that have been neglected.
We haven't felt our shoulders,
Haven't felt the strength of our own frame.
And strangely,
It feels stronger the lighter it is.
So feel that your shoulders,
Down into the sockets of the shoulders,
Underneath the collarbones,
All through the muscle,
All through those bones,
Wrapping around the shoulder blades,
The tissues connecting everything.
Feel that it's all made of air,
Light as a feather.
You're just aware of one of the many qualities of your being,
Of life.
One of the qualities is pure airiness,
Pure floating,
Pure lightness,
Pure refreshment.
So feel all through the collarbone,
Refreshed.
Every time you pay more attention,
You bring more awareness underneath the collarbone,
Deep inside those pockets in front of the shoulders,
Down into the sternum,
And behind the sternum,
Coming into the heart,
Coming into the lungs.
The lungs fill with air,
All on their own.
Feel how the whole chest fills with air,
All on its own.
And then feel your chest is much,
Much,
Much bigger than your chest.
Feel how it's several feet beyond the skin of the chest.
Your whole being breathes on its own.
That oxygen,
That breath,
That air inflates your whole energy body well beyond the skin.
Feel the spine in the back of the chest.
Feel each vertebrae open,
Air moving through.
We're not conjuring anything.
There's zero effort here.
Just noticing what's already the case.
Feeling the back of your chest,
Maybe you can feel the seat behind you or the pillow.
Maybe you can feel your clothing and then start to feeling into the room.
Where's the separation?
Where's the solidity?
It's an open window out the back of your chest,
An open window out the front of the chest.
Let that sternum be nice and open.
Feel the heart relax and open.
Feel the lungs naturally fill so much,
You can't tell where the lungs begin and end.
It's just a movement of air moving through your chest.
Feel underneath the sternum,
Down into the ribs,
Bottoms of the ribs.
Feel the ribs and the tissues connecting the ribs stretch and open.
Every breath bringing more air into our tissues,
Into our being.
You don't have to do a thing.
It's just all happening for you.
You're just feeling yourself,
Feeling the body and that opens it up.
And the body feels more connected.
It feels the connection that's already here.
It feels the connectedness of the air from inside the body and outside the body.
There's never been a separation.
We can feel that connectedness through these wind currents that flow from the room and down out to the street and up into the sky and down into the earth.
Currents of wind that flow through us.
We can feel move through us.
No effort on our part.
See if you can feel all the way to the middle of the solar plexus under the ribs,
That grippy bit there.
Don't worry,
It's grippy for everybody.
But any little bit of attention starts to unwind it,
Starts to bring air into the room.
It's like a dust bunny in the corner of the room.
If you open those windows,
It just swoops in.
That wind swoops in and just pulls that little dust bunny out of the corner,
Deep inside the solar plexus.
So let that happen.
Let your attention,
Pure airy consciousness just come scoop out that solar plexus.
Feel so much air rushing into the solar plexus that you can breathe again.
You're meant to breathe deeply.
The breath extends down deep into the solar plexus and beyond.
So let it be as expansive as it can be.
Let that whole area just open and open and open as you pour attention in there.
Your attention,
Your very awareness is refreshment.
It's cleaning house.
And if the mind is chatty,
It's no problem.
You don't need to concentrate.
We're just playing here.
We're playing with attention,
Playing with the feeling of it,
Seeing what happens when we feel into that solar plexus and let the breeziness of our attention open it up and open it up.
It's not something you need to understand or focus on even.
It's just playing with your attention and the qualities of it.
Let's come down into the belly,
Letting the belly also open up.
Feel like a fresh,
Fresh breeze on a warm summer day is flowing through the belly,
Through the skin,
Through the organs.
Let the belly all the way down past the belly button,
Down into the pelvis,
The whole belly,
Upper belly down to the lower belly,
All through the intestines,
Made of air.
Light as a feather and completely open.
So the air in the room and the air in the belly flow in and out.
From awareness,
You can't tell where the belly and the air in the room begin and end.
You'd have to go to your head to figure that out.
So don't.
Let it be one continuous light flow and let that absolute lightness,
That soft breeze start to flow through the pelvis,
Maybe flowing into the hip bones,
Flowing into the sit bones,
Flowing through the pubic bone.
That warm breeze scooping out the bits of grip at the base of the pelvis,
Near the tailbone or inside the tailbone,
Inside the lower back,
Down the deep center of the hips,
The hip joint.
Feel the breeziness of your attention flowing into the bones,
Flowing into the sex organs,
Flowing into the skin wrapped around the pelvis.
That warm breeze just flowing into every corner.
It's your own attention,
Just pure consciousness.
That's all that's needed.
It is refreshing.
It is airy.
It is enlightening.
Feel your pelvis be so open,
Every window,
Every door,
On all sides.
360 degrees around the top and the bottom,
Open,
Open,
Open.
Air breezing through.
And you might feel a little spot that's dense,
Feels like a shut door.
Put your attention there.
In all of my meditations,
Trust your own instinct.
You don't have to follow my voice in any rigid way.
If there's a spot that needs airing out,
Stop the tape and stay there.
Or just use my voice to stay in the spot that you feel needs airing out.
Maybe it's in those lower vertebrae.
Maybe it's in your pubic bone.
Maybe the right hip feels really dense.
Trust yourself.
Trust your own inner knowing,
Which isn't mental.
It's a felt sense.
Feel how that breeziness,
That swirling airiness of the inside the pelvis now flows through the skin and flows into the upper legs.
And how the flow between the muscle and the bones and the skin and out and through your clothes and out into the room.
How that air doesn't know the difference.
It just flows through the air of your own awareness.
So feel those upper thighs being made of air,
The inner thigh,
The lower thigh,
The tops of the thighs,
Down into the knees,
Just made of air.
So light.
Feel from inside the knees down into the shins,
The calf muscles,
All the tissue and muscle wrapped around the bones,
Wrapping down into the ankles and down into the feet.
All this connective tissue,
All these fine bones of the feet.
Not one little bit of any of that isn't made of air.
Bones are so completely made of air.
There's nothing solid there.
So feel the little bones of the feet,
Feel the arches between the toes and the nail beds of your feet and the tips of your toes.
Very alive,
Very full of energy,
Very full of air.
Refreshed the more you pay attention to them.
But every single one of those bones is literally made of air.
As are the tissues,
As is the skin.
And then out into the room.
Feel that you are literally made of air.
You couldn't be lighter.
Feel the lightness of your feet,
Made of air.
The ankles,
The legs,
The lower and upper legs,
Floating in air,
Floating in space.
Let your body stretch and move if you feel to.
Just let it open itself.
Bodies are constantly showing us what they want to do.
Let them flow,
Let them move.
Or if it feels good to be very still,
You're listening.
You,
Pure awareness,
Pure consciousness,
Are listening to this body.
You're completely infused in them now.
Feel that your whole lower leg,
Upper legs,
Pelvis,
Belly,
Chest,
Back of the chest,
Front of the chest,
Deep inside the chest,
Shoulders.
And now down into the arms.
Feel the arms just lightening up.
As you feel into the bones,
Feel into the muscles,
Feel into the elbows,
Down into the lower arms and hands.
Feel that your hands and your fingers and your fingertips are as light as they could possibly be.
The body is floating in space.
It absolutely is.
The breezes of life,
The winds of life are flowing through you.
Thought forms and energies and emotion,
Energy in motion.
It's all flowing on the wind of you.
Air doesn't stand still,
Can't be captured.
So feel the breeziness.
Now up into the tops of the shoulders,
Neck again,
Back of the neck and all through the head.
Feel how the body is floating in air as air itself.
It's a current of air,
Your being.
It's so light.
It's a current of air among other currents of air.
It has all these beautiful qualities that weather does.
You have beautiful aromas and you have a temperature and you have sweet or sour qualities and they're all just right,
Exactly as you are.
But it's qualities that are so light,
So fine,
So sweet in the breeze.
Let yourself be so,
So light as to be made of air and then let the body just flow and float as that air,
As air currents themselves.
And again,
You may feel your body just want to actually flow.
It might want to move.
Let it do it.
Let it do whatever it wants.
It will just do it.
There's no you in charge here.
Feel how your whole body from deep,
Deep,
Deep inside the body,
At the core of the body,
All the way through,
Through the skin and then out into the room and out into the sky and down into the earth.
Feel how it's all as airy as can be.
So light,
Not solid.
So refreshing,
So cleansing.
This sweet,
Fragrant airiness of you is always refreshed.
It's ever-changing.
There's always a new you every moment.
So whatever story you have of a kind of person you are or anything like that,
These are just stories.
They're gone with the wind.
It's a fresh moment.
And the more you tune into the quality of your being that is refreshment and air itself,
The more you let life live you.
Let yourself be refreshed.
Let yourself be moved by the winds of change.
The flow of your being might be very surprising.
It's very,
Very hard to track weather patterns,
Especially wind.
It flows and swirls and moves this way and that.
Let yourself do that.
You don't have to make sense.
You get to be nonlinear.
You are nonlinear.
From this pure consciousness,
Notice where does this wind,
This air of your being begin and end?
You can't find a barrier because you are absolutely infused inside life.
You've never been separate.
You are part of life's ever-changing orchestra.
You're a wind instrument.
The body is like a wind instrument,
Being played by God,
Being played by goddess,
Being played by life.
So let your wind instrument flow open.
Let yourself be played by the winds.
You're not in control.
There's nobody there at the helm.
Life's in control.
Let life flow through you.
It already is.
It already is you.
It'll flow and the winds of change will change anyway.
So you might as well be on board.
Might as well let it happen.
You're just letting the body move,
Letting this consciousness move through the body,
Letting yourself feel the winds of energy moving through your body.
Nothing to do,
Nothing to figure out.
Riding those winds.
Letting the air currents of your own being take you into the next moment and the next without it necessarily making any sense.
Let yourself be out of control weather.
