A physical or emotional injury is already stressful on our body. Often the slow process of healing also challenges our mental well-being. This meditation aims to help you find acceptance during this difficult time and includes a mantra that helped me through a several-year injury recovery journey.

Settle into your space.

Take a deep breath in and a slow gentle exhale out.

One more time.

Take a deep breath in and a slow gentle exhale out.

Feel your feet on the ground and feel the seat beneath you and feel supported in your space.

Lift your shoulders up to your ears,

Down and back around.

Imagine you're taking off a really heavy backpack and letting it go.

This backpack has everything that came before and everything that will come after.

It'll be there waiting for you when you're done with this meditation.

Right now you have nothing else to do and nowhere else to be but here in your space.

Close your eyes or if that doesn't feel safe in your space right now,

Soften your gaze and gently look down.

Turn your awareness inward to your beautiful body,

Your one true home.

Notice how you feel inside today.

What areas need healing?

You are safe here to search out those areas that need attention and care.

Know that whatever you feel or experience today is okay.

Meditation is a place where you can greet yourself,

Your body and your emotions without judgment rather than avoiding or hiding from them.

As you continue to breathe,

Send your breath to those spaces asking for extra care.

Your breath is a warm healing light that surrounds those spaces.

Feel this healing light warm and calm your body from within.

As you breathe and as your body feels the breath.

In order to heal,

We have to acknowledge,

To see clearly,

To move into our pain with acceptance and grace rather than turning away.

Continuous change is part of our existence.

However,

We expect things to remain permanent,

Our relationship,

Our health,

Our jobs.

This makes our pain that much more intense when change does arise.

The world around us may appear solid and unchanging,

But even rivers change course.

Mountains crumble,

Seas dry and stars flicker out of existence.

Human life is brief,

Like a flash of lightning in a summer storm.

As human beings,

We are subject to the ongoing cycle of life,

Death and rebirth,

Aging,

Sickness and pain.

Much of the pain we experience in life is inevitable.

This can be difficult.

Treat yourself with compassion and kindness.

Acceptance of where we are right now,

Today,

Will help us to heal.

Give yourself the kindness and grace you would give others,

Others that you love,

Who are also healing.

We are always breaking and healing,

In small ways and in large ways.

This is part of our human experience.

People often say to us,

There is always tomorrow,

Or things will get better,

Or this too shall pass.

Instead of helping,

Often that makes us live in a world of regret and wanting,

Regret for what has not yet happened,

And desire for the healing that we wish would happen.

We feel frustrated,

Angry or sad that we are not the way that we want to be,

Or the way that we used to be,

Before our injury,

Before we lost our loved one,

Before menopause,

Before childbirth,

Before now.

We blame ourselves and judge ourselves and our bodies for not healing faster.

We spend time thinking about what isn't,

What we no longer have,

What we can no longer do.

We feel broken,

Yet even when we feel broken,

We are whole.

As we heal,

We are still whole.

Parts of us may feel fractured.

Sometimes those little cracks let the light inside,

Helping us be more compassionate,

Helping us to grow stronger.

We are like a light coming through a prism.

On one side,

A whole white light,

And on the other side,

A light broken into many parts that together create a perfect rainbow.

Both are whole.

I invite you now,

As you breathe,

To use the following mantra.

As you breathe in,

Say to yourself silently,

I am healing.

And as you breathe out,

Say to yourself silently,

Breathe in,

I am healing.

Breathe out,

I am whole.

Breathe in health and nurturing.

Breathe out pain and sadness.

I am healing.

I am whole.

I am healing.

I am whole.

Breathe in,

I am healing.

Breathe out,

I am whole.

You have the strength and resilience to heal.

The inevitability of change also creates possibilities.

The possibilities for us to transform are endless.

The you that you are today is unique.

The you of tomorrow will be another you.

There have been thousands of unique versions of you so far in your life.

Embrace every version of you that has and will exist in this world.

You are perfect.

You are powerful.

And you are whole.

Take one more slow,

Deep breath in.

And a long,

Slow,

Gentle exhale out.

Gently flutter open your eyes and come back to your space.

Namaste.
