Welcome,

And I hope that each one of you will come to find peace within yourself.

Today,

I want to talk a little bit about chakras.

This meditation was requested by Angus during one of my live sessions.

It's been more than 40 years since I last dealt with chakras,

But I still remember the basics.

So this will just be a basic introduction to chakras.

And if you want to learn more,

There are countless books on this subject.

Chakras are envisioned as spinning energy centers within our bodies,

Connecting our physical,

Mental,

And emotional selves.

The word chakra comes from the Sanskrit language and it means wheel or disc.

And for those who might be wondering,

Chakras are not the same as chi.

Chakras originated in ancient Indian spiritual systems.

They're believed to regulate the flow of energy through the body.

When balanced,

They promote physical,

Emotional,

And spiritual well-being.

Chi,

On the other hand,

Has its roots in ancient Chinese medicine.

In Chinese medicine,

Chi flows through meridians,

Of which there are 12,

And it influences health.

Acupuncture and qigong aim to balance your chi.

When it comes to chakras,

There are seven main chakras,

Each corresponding to a specific location in the body.

Each has its own color and aspect of our lives.

So let's explore them just briefly.

There's the root chakra,

Located at the base of your spine.

It provides a foundation for life,

Grounding,

And stability.

It's associated with security and endurance.

The color of the root chakra is red.

The sacral chakra is found just below the belly button.

It governs sexual and creative energy,

As well as emotions.

And the color of the sacral chakra is orange.

Next,

As we move up,

Is the solar plexus.

It's located in your stomach area,

And it influences confidence,

Self-esteem,

And control over your life.

The color of the solar plexus chakra is yellow.

Then there's the heart chakra,

Near your heart.

It's all about love and compassion and emotional well-being.

And the color of the heart chakra is either green or pink.

Next is the throat chakra.

It's situated in your throat,

And it relates to verbal communication and self-expression.

And the color of the throat chakra is blue.

Next up is one that most everyone has heard of.

It's the third eye chakra.

It's located between your eyebrows,

And it's associated with intuition,

Insight,

And inner wisdom.

And the color of the third eye chakra is indigo.

And lastly,

There's the crown chakra.

At the top of your head,

It connects to higher consciousness and spiritual awareness.

And the color of the crown chakra is violet or white.

And balancing these chakras through practices like yoga or meditation and breath work can promote overall well-being.

Visualizing the respective colors during meditation or using corresponding gemstones can enhance chakra balance.

While the concept of chakras has deep roots in spiritual and traditional Indian systems,

The scientific existence supporting their existence remains elusive.

They're just believed to be energy centers,

Often depicted as a spinning wheel or a vortex of energy.

However,

Modern science does not validate their spiritual significance.

Sometimes scientists suggest that chakras may correspond to physical body parts,

Particularly in the nervous system.

But conclusive evidence is lacking.

Balancing your chakras involves aligning their energy flow.

And here are a few practices that can help.

Meditation.

You can focus on each chakra,

Visualize its color,

And breathe deeply,

And imagine energy flowing smoothly through them.

In yoga,

There are poses like the tree pose that can also help.

Another way is through affirmations,

Repeating positive statements related to each chakra.

For example,

I am grounded for the root chakra.

Let's close your eyes now,

And let's start to get in touch with our breath.

It doesn't matter if you're sitting down,

Standing,

Or lying on your bed.

The only thing that matters when you meditate is that you're comfortable and alert.

First,

Let's scan our body and begin to relax.

Relax your face.

Unfurl your brows and unclench your jaw.

Relax your neck and your shoulders.

Roll your neck around and shrug your shoulders and let them just drop.

Relax your arms and your hands.

Look for any tension in your chest and belly.

And find yourself getting heavier with each and every breath.

Just breathing in and breathing out,

One breath at a time.

Relax your legs and your feet.

And as you begin to relax,

Let's start to focus even more on our breath.

I've said it many times,

Our breath is like a river as it flows in and flows out.

Just inhale slowly and then gently exhale.

Remember,

You're breathing for you,

Not breathing for me.

And this is your meditation.

I'm just a guide.

Pay attention to your breath as it comes in.

Maybe a cool sensation in your nose or the movement of your chest and belly as the breath moves in and moves out.

And all the while,

We're just breathing.

Breathing in and breathing out,

Just one breath at a time.

Now,

In keeping with our meditation on chakras,

We're going to visualize a red spinning wheel at the base of our spine.

And just breathe as you visualize this.

Just see it spinning at the base of your spine,

Emitting energy.

And then move up to the sacral chakra,

Right below your navel.

And picture it spinning also.

Next,

We'll move to the solar plexus chakra.

Shift your focus there,

Just below the border of your ribs.

And envision a yellow spinning wheel,

Empowering your confidence and willpower.

And all the while,

We're just breathing.

Breathing in and breathing out,

One breath at a time.

Next,

We come to the heart chakra.

And bring your awareness to your heart,

To the center of your chest.

And see a green spinning wheel,

Symbolizing love and compassion and connection.

Just sit and breathe and feel this connection to your heart chakra.

Feel the love and the self-compassion.

Then we'll move up to the throat area.

Imagine a blue spinning wheel,

Enhancing your communication and your self-expression.

Just breathe,

Just breathe.

And picture this chakra spinning.

And then we'll move up to the third eye chakra.

Focus on the space between your eyebrows.

Visualize a beautiful indigo spinning wheel,

Opening your intuition and your inner wisdom.

And we're still just breathing.

Breathing in and breathing out,

One breath at a time.

As we come to the crown chakra.

Finally,

Direct your attention there,

To the top of your head.

And picture a violet or white spinning wheel,

Connecting you to universal consciousness.

Now take a deep breath,

And feel the alignment of all your chakras.

All of the spinning wheels,

Moving and synchronizing,

As the energy flows in your body.

While we have this moment,

Let's express gratitude for the balancing and healing of our chakras.

Now,

As we come to a close,

Open your eyes and come back into the room,

Being aware of each and every breath.

Wiggle your fingers and toes and stretch,

And feel how good it is to be alive.

Notice how relaxed you feel,

How good it feels to be in this moment,

And this moment.

How good it feels to be in this moment,

And this moment is the only one you can be sure of.

It's the only moment that matters.

Remember,

Forever is now.

The past is unchangeable,

And the future doesn't exist except in our mind.

This,

Here,

Now,

This is all you can be sure of.

Breathing in and breathing out,

One breath at a time.

Take time to find the stillness inside you,

And you can appreciate your life more fully.

I hope this has been a beneficial and calming session,

And if you'd like,

We'd love to have you in our group here on Insight Timer.

Just search for Meditation with Michael.

The study of chakras can be very involved,

And I've just touched the surface,

But it gives you a slight idea of what chakra study could be.

Till next time.
