Meditation for a Broken Heart Hello,
My name is Matthew.
I come to you today with a genuine intention to ease the pain around an experience that all humans share in one form or another.
Having a Broken Heart If you are hurting and suffering from having your heart broken in this moment,
Let this meditation be a balm to soothe your wounds.
The nature of the heart is to give.
To give selflessly,
Wholly,
And completely.
The heart is brave and strong,
Yet also tender and vulnerable.
We have given ourselves so fully and let ourselves be vulnerable by sharing our heart with another,
And then felt rejected,
Unrequited,
Unmet,
Or betrayed.
The subsequent pain is simply immense.
We can have our hearts broken by friends,
Family members,
Lovers,
And even ourselves.
When we majorly invest our trust and are let down in a big way,
The pain of a broken heart can rush in so strongly.
The experience of loss can have us feel like there is simply just no way to go on.
I get that.
Whichever type of broken heart you are experiencing,
I want to offer you an infinite love and compassion that holds your pain so tenderly and fully.
As a result of having my heart broken many times before,
I know this pain and have felt it deeply.
My heart goes out to you in this moment.
I know that you are not alone in your experience.
You are noticed,
Seen,
Felt,
And heard.
Let's begin a loving kindness meditation to work with our beautiful heart space,
Offering it some nurturing and loving compassion.
If you are not in the place right now to sit comfortably upright,
That's okay.
Relax and be tender with yourself.
If you have it in you to find a posture for meditation,
Sitting upright,
Spine lifted,
Shoulders back,
Heart open,
Go ahead and do so now.
First,
Let us connect with our breath,
The miraculous gift of our breath.
Your breath is carrying you from each moment to the next,
Offering you nourishment,
Sustenance,
And comfort in times of experiencing great emotional pain.
Your breath is your gateway to passing through the trials of what you are experiencing right now.
Gently allow your breath to deepen.
If it is hard to breathe in this moment,
That's okay.
I understand.
Simply connect with the gentle waves of breath and allow them to course through you.
Offer these breaths to yourself as a gesture of simple,
Pure,
Loving kindness.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Breathing in.
Extending love to yourself.
Breathing out.
Allowing some peace.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allow for peace.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
We'll focus in now on the space of the heart.
All the sensations swirling around.
You may feel a burning intensity.
You may feel like your throat is full of lava.
You may feel tightness,
Constriction,
Pounding.
A pain that is seemingly unbearable.
Do the best that you can to just be with these sensations.
Experiencing them shifting from moment to moment.
Although the pain can be so extreme,
It shifts,
It undulates,
It changes.
And like all other experiences in this life,
It is impermanent.
It is a wave passing through.
It is not eternal.
And you will get through it.
You can love yourself through any tumultuous experience.
Use the loving breath.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
Allow yourself to fully feel what's in your heart.
As hard as that can be.
If the tears need to flow,
Let them flow.
Take refuge in your loving breath.
Extending love and compassion to yourself in your present experience.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
We'll practice widening the circle.
Extending this love and compassion to all beings suffering from broken hearts.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
Breathing in.
Extending love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
Breathing in.
Extend love.
Breathing out.
Allowing peace.
Each breath brings us the knowing that love heals our pain,
Making our hearts whole again,
Even when it feels so shattered and fragmented.
Each loving breath restores the beautiful giving capacity of our heart.
Your heart is whole.
It is pure.
It is boundless and beautiful.
This meditation has served you and helped to ease your pain.
Let loving compassion carry you from each moment to the next.
Namaste.
