Welcome to this grounding meditation for new motherhood from mind over mother.

Please find a quiet place to use this meditation and do not listen while driving.

Begin by lying down or reclining with your palms up,

Ready to receive the exact wisdom you need today.

Imagine a place where you can feel completely like yourself.

Whether you love yourself right now or are feeling challenged,

This is a safe place.

It can be a place you know well or one where you have never been but which still calls to you.

It can be the same place you return to every time you sink into relaxation or a different place each time.

Put yourself in that place now.

The important thing is,

There is no judgment here.

You are enough here.

You can truly feel like you and inhabit your own skin,

No matter what else is happening around you.

Picture yourself existing in this place and observing it.

Notice a small detail about it,

A sight,

A sound,

A smell,

A sensation that can bring you back if your mind begins to wander.

Listen to your breathing.

With each breath,

Feel more at home in this place you have chosen.

I will count down from 5 to 1.

With each number,

You feel more comfortable,

More at peace,

More a part of your place.

5.

Take a deep breath in and slowly let it out.

4.

Feel your body sinking deeper into what's supporting you.

3.

Feel your palms relax more,

Ready to receive the benefits of this meditation.

2.

Notice the grounding detail of your place.

1.

You feel comfortable,

Safe,

And relaxed.

All is well.

As you breathe,

You feel the weight of everything that has happened from the end of your pregnancy to the birth to this moment,

Sliding off your shoulders.

You have just been through so much.

Welcoming a new life into the world is no easy feat,

And yet you have discovered your own rhythm,

Your own grace,

Your own wisdom in this challenging time.

You have more responsibilities now than you ever did.

Everything feels somehow bigger,

More important.

You have a new role,

A new identity,

But none of these worries touch you here.

There is a well of deep calm inside of you that you have not discovered until now.

By taking this moment to meditate deeper and deeper,

You are connected to that place so that you may return to it whenever you'd like.

The goal isn't perfection.

No moment,

No day,

No person is perfect.

But one thing is sure,

You are the mother that your baby needs,

And your particular baby has come to you for a reason.

You are a teacher,

And you are a student.

Your baby learns from you and teaches you.

These are the beautiful early days of a lifetime bond that nobody else experiences quite like the two of you.

You are exactly where you need to be,

Doing exactly what you need to be doing.

These beautiful,

Stressful,

Fragile,

Tiring,

And absolutely precious days are rushing by.

But there is a well of deep wisdom and calm and peace inside of you.

When time feels like it's moving too quickly,

Or the demands placed on you seem too great,

Come back to your breath.

You will come back to the detail that links you to this place where you are enough,

Where you still exist.

You are a mother now,

Yes,

But you are also yourself.

Your image of yourself might change as the days go by,

But some things about you never change.

They are distilled to their perfect,

Beautiful,

Primal elements.

They make you exactly who you are,

Your authentic self.

And you are strong.

You are calm.

You are courageous.

You are full of creative energy.

You are wise and you are mighty.

You are enough.

No matter how overwhelmed you might feel,

You are doing it,

And that's all that counts.

Feel the floor or chair or bed supporting your body.

It is holding you up.

You are resting and recharging in this moment.

You have made time for yourself,

And you make time for self-care no matter what else is happening around you.

You overcome any challenges that you face today and every day in every way.

Inside of you is a calm place.

You can find it by closing your eyes and taking a deep,

Restorative breath in and out.

Inhale and fill your body with precious oxygen.

As you breathe in,

So you breathe out.

As the sun rises,

So it sets.

As any stressors threaten to overpower you,

Know that you have power over them today,

Tomorrow and every other day.

Life is never going to be free from powerful feelings,

But you are free from letting them overwhelm you.

Inside of you is a calm place that you can visit anytime you wish,

Even if you only visit for a moment.

Now I will count to three,

And you will emerge from this meditation feeling energized and stronger and wiser and more courageous in the face of the ups and downs of these new baby days.

One,

You deepen your breathing.

Two,

You wiggle your fingers and toes,

Becoming aware of the space around you.

And three,

You open your eyes,

Refreshed,

Wise and calm.

All is well,

Mama.

Please visit mindovermother.

A quick word about postpartum mental health.

If you ever feel like you are stretched too thin,

If things feel hopeless,

Or if life does not seem to hold any spark for you,

Please reach out and speak to your partner and your healthcare provider,

Doctor,

Midwife or therapist.

Unbalanced emotions are common in the postpartum period,

But sometimes it's more than just the baby blues.

There is always help.

You are not alone.
