This practice is called sitting with the mother.

In this practice,

We're using the mother as a concept,

An archetype,

Or a symbol.

The mother could also be felt as an energy,

Or it could be a spiritual concept if you have your own spiritual concept of the mother.

The energy of the mother is soft or yin.

It's gentle and maternal and nurturing.

Above all,

The energy of the mother is safe.

Let's begin this practice by orienting our bodies to this space.

Allow your eyes to softly gaze around the room or the space you're in,

Following along the edges of objects in your environment.

Allowing the eyes to move across the room or the space,

Creating a sense of awareness in your body and letting your nervous system know that you are safe here to begin this practice.

Move the body in any way that's necessary to find alertness and ease.

Building your center line,

Center of gravity.

And as you begin this practice,

Notice your own intention.

What is it that you're sitting here to do this practice for?

Ease,

Presence.

Taking note of the breath,

Allowing the breath to be just as it is.

And staying with the breath now,

If this is comfortable for you.

You can also use your body as an anchor in a place such as your hands.

Or you can use your ears and listen to the sound as a way of allowing your mind to settle.

Whichever way you choose,

Allow your mind to stay there to get into a more settled state as you begin this practice.

Noticing what thoughts or quality of mind or what feelings you can notice right now.

Really resting in awareness.

Noticing what comes up or takes you away and returning back to your restful awareness once again.

Now bringing in the energy of the mother.

Soft and gentle.

Yin.

Holding,

Nurturing.

Safe.

Feel the mother present.

Turn yourself back to the mother's energy.

Resting with the mother.

Resting with the safety now.

Noticing any difficulty in this practice.

Avoidance or aversion.

This is okay too.

You can allow this to be here.

Exploring what it's like for you to practice in the sense of the mother.

Notice the body.

Where in the body can you receive this safety?

Is it felt in your arms or your stomach?

What would it be like to receive this energy more in your heart space?

As you prepare to close this meditation,

Noting how the mother might be part of your day going forward.

This is an energy of safety and trust that you can continue to work with.

Good adjunct to the therapy I've been doing. Definitely felt the resistance and my body contorted inward. I'm glad you brought it up, about the discomfort because it normalized it for me, and I was able to let that energy begin entering into my heart
