In this guided imagery practice, you will be given prompts to create imagery of your own making to assist you in meeting the needs that brought you to Insight Timer today. When we engage in creativity, we are rewiring the brain. In this practice, you will create imagery that can sustain you throughout whatever the day has brought or will bring to you.

Thank you for joining me and for taking the time to honor and nurture yourself.

In this meditation,

We will be using imagery of your own making to cultivate growth within.

Take a moment to settle into your space.

Whether seated or lying down,

And with your eyes gently closed,

Think of the space that you have created here for yourself.

Sense the quality of the space,

Enveloping you,

Holding you,

Opening you to yourself.

Let's take a moment to practice a bit of gratitude.

You have shown up.

You have set aside time to be here.

You have created this safe space for yourself.

This space gives you the opportunity to commune with your very worthy self.

Send some loving kindness to the space that you have created.

Now allow yourself to feel the support of the surface beneath you.

Be mindful of the points of contact,

And note the quality of this sensation.

You are here.

You are supported.

You are grounded.

Let's bring some imagery to this feeling beneath you.

Take a moment to think of a surface outdoors that would have the qualities that you are seeking.

Allow your mind to fully embrace and complete the image of where you are.

What colors do you see?

What colors do you see?

What shapes are present?

Perhaps there are some shapes that are solid,

And some that seem softer or lighter.

What are the qualities of the light around you?

What sensations can you feel on your skin?

What can you hear?

What do you smell?

What do you smell?

As you inhale,

Bring the unique sense of the environment that you have created into yourself.

Imagine them taking root,

Cultivating something new and full of life within you.

Let's give this new life some shape.

Imagine a sprout coming up from the area where you have planted this new life with your breath.

What does the sprout look like?

Imagine the soil that you are growing.

Imagine the soil in which you have planted this sprout to be rich and damp and healthy for your little sprout.

Imagine the sunlight radiating through your flesh and shining on this little sprout.

From your heart,

You send the sprout love and gratitude and hope.

From your head,

You send encouragement and support and words of kindness.

In words of kindness.

You find that the sprout has grown a bud.

As you tend to your sprout,

You start to notice that this bud is opening.

Dainty,

Soft,

Beautiful petals are being revealed.

Notice the color of the petals.

How many are present on your flower?

What does this flower represent to you?

Take a moment to bask in the beauty of what you have cultivated in this practice.

Now that our session is coming to a close,

I would like you to consider taking a moment,

Sometime today,

To find a medium that you feel would help you represent this image.

Whether you find sketching,

Graphic design,

Watercolor,

Color,

Or even a little bit of color,

Taking the time to represent this image will help you to solidify this practice and return to it often.

Remember that this image is of your own making and is imbued with all of the qualities that you currently possess,

And that you can use to create your own image.

Remember that this image is of your own making and is imbued with all of the qualities that you currently possess,

As well as those that you are growing into.

I appreciate your willingness to join me in this practice today and for taking the time to honor and nurture yourself.

Outstanding—this open-ended visualization is structured in such a way that it can be used over and over, by anyone from an absolute beginner to someone who has spent a lifetime exploring meditation. The process can have a spiritual component and/or a creative one (to name just two), and could conceivably be used in times of current emotional distress (the opening focus on claiming a safe space, no matter how small, is especially powerful—and the rest follows from that). Highly recommended, and an exercise I intend to revisit often.
