Reconnect To Your Heart
by Mary Bolton
Your heart holds great power that, when connected to, allows you to live more fully. In this practice, you are gently and supportively guided through realigning with inherent qualities of your heart, by using your breath to move through the different dimensions of your heart and integrate these aspects of yourself.

Welcome.
This practice is for your heart and for you to connect with the inherent qualities of your heart center,
Affirming the great power that comes from aligning with this part of yourself.
Begin by sitting comfortably,
Close your eyes and just breathe.
Take a few moments to simply feel your breath and bring your full presence to this moment.
Now slowly begin to allow your awareness to descend into your body.
By letting your breath drop down and your attention follow.
As you come more clearly into your body,
Begin to turn toward your heart,
Right in the center of your chest,
Allowing your awareness to descend and to rest in your heart.
Let this be a soft landing into this area,
Feeling the delicate nature of this realm of yourself.
We can hold a lot of pain as well as potential in our hearts.
So it's important to come in slowly,
Without force,
But rather by allowing,
Gently allowing your awareness to rest here in your heart.
Begin to feel the beat of your heart and the steady pulse of your physical heart that reminds you that your body is alive,
A living organism that holds a rhythm as your heart beats and blood circulates.
Place your left hand over the center of your chest for a few moments to get a clearer connection.
Perhaps the pulse feels stronger as you focus upon it.
And as you catch hold of this feeling,
This feeling of life pulsing through you,
Allow your heartbeat to spread through the rest of your body,
Like soft waves washing through you.
Now begin to bring together the beat of your heart with the rhythm of your breath,
Allowing the two to synchronize,
As if creating a melody with a sweet soothing tempo.
You might feel four or five heartbeats per inhale and four or five heartbeats per exhale.
Take a few moments here resting into this sensation of the rhythm of your breath mingling with the beat of your heart.
Now with your awareness in your chest,
Drop your focus deeper in to the very center of your heart.
Breathe in and out from this point so that now you are inhaling and exhaling through the very center of your heart,
Continuing a slow steady rhythm.
And this is your home,
The very core of your being,
Where your capacity for unconditional love resides.
It holds your innate love of self beyond conditioned beliefs.
It's a place of refuge,
As well as connection,
From which you can interact with the world from your wholeness.
Breathing here,
Feel the breath gently glide in and out from the very center of your heart,
As you align with your intrinsic quality of unconditional love for yourself and others.
Next,
Transfer your breath to the bottom of your heart,
Allowing your awareness to rest underneath your heart center.
Slowly breathe in and out here.
This is your gateway to empathy and sincerity.
The bottom of your heart connects down to the lower body and all the way down into the earth.
As you breathe in and out here,
Imagine you're dropping the exhale through the bottom of your heart,
Down into the earth,
And inhaling back up from the earth into your heart center.
In this way,
You ground the breath and connect to your authenticity.
Take a few moments to concentrate your breath through the bottom of your heart to connect to your natural sincerity and compassion.
Next,
Draw your attention to the left side of your heart.
Breathe in and out from this location,
Feeling the breath move through the left side of your rib cage as the ribs expand and contract with your breath.
This is the receptive side of your heart from which you allow,
Accept,
And receive.
It holds your capacity for cooperation,
Tolerance,
And acceptance.
Taking a few steady breaths in and out of the left side of your heart,
Let your attention rest in this area,
An opening through which you take in and acknowledge your inherent capability for non-judgmental receptivity.
Now shift your focus over to the right side of your heart,
Breathing in and out of the right region of your chest.
Feel the ribs expand and contract on this side.
This is the expressive side of your heart through which you influence and affect others.
Through the right side of your heart,
You emit an inherent kindness and camaraderie that can put others at ease.
Breathe a few rounds in and out of the right side of your heart,
Activating your natural inclination toward positive influence and kindness towards others.
Moving to the back of your heart,
Concentrate your breath in and out of the back side of your upper torso,
Feeling the inhale fill in and the exhale filter out through your shoulder blades and back ribs.
This is the side through which you receive support,
The kind of support you lean into and count on as it's always there.
As you breathe in and out through your back body,
Feel that you are unconditionally held,
Supported,
And nurtured.
Spend a few moments breathing softly through the back of your heart to open to a greater sense of receiving the support you need.
Now bring your breath around to the front of your heart,
In the center of your chest,
Feeling the breath expand and contract through your front ribs.
This is the revelatory side of your heart through which you show your inherent generosity.
Breathe in and out of the front of your heart to clear the way for greater access to your giving nature.
Your capacity for generous presence is expressed here in the front of your heart,
As if shining a radiant glow of affection for all.
Continue to breathe in and out of the front of your heart for a few moments to come more profoundly into your most generous spirit.
Moving next up to the top of your heart,
Allow your in-breath and out-breath to flow through the top of the center of your chest.
This is where you access inspiration,
Optimism,
And wisdom.
The top of your heart connects up through the neck and head and on up to the sky.
As you breathe here,
Imagine that you are raising your breath up to the sky and drawing breath back down from the sky into your heart center.
In this way,
You open up to the vastness and pure potentiality of the universe and bring an open spaciousness into your heart center.
Focus your breath here,
Gently lifting the inhale and lowering the exhale to connect to your inspired nature and highest wisdom.
Now return to the center of your heart and feel your breath as if breathing in and out in all directions,
Creating balance between all sides.
Bring in compassion from the bottom of your heart,
Receptivity from the left side,
Balancing with expressiveness from the right.
Feel support from the back of your heart and generosity flowing through the front as you lift up with inspiration through the top of your heart.
Breathe here for a few moments to integrate these aspects of yourself,
Allowing your breath and your heart to resonate together.
Slowly,
Slowly begin to open your eyes,
Maintaining your awareness in your heart.
With your eyes softly open,
Feel the subtle glow of your heart that comes from having focused your attention here.
And feel the subtle power of having realigned yourself with the inherent qualities of your heart center.
Make an impression of this feeling,
This sensation,
So that it will remain with you as you move through the rest of your day.
And enjoy.
