Life sometimes seems to require such ongoing persistence, patience, willingness to keep showing up and engaging, and sometimes that well just feels dry. Here's a Remembrance for your heart, when you're in the desert and no oasis is in sight.

Al-Dibillah min ash-Shaytan al-Rajim.

Bismillah,

Rahman,

Raheem,

In the name of the One Most Compassionate,

Most Merciful,

Most Kind.

This is Mark Silver with Heart of Business and welcome to the Remembrance.

Allah.

Persistence is something that can feel really elusive and yet being in business does take some persistence.

And yet if you've been persistent for any length of time you can feel drained.

And so if your persistence is feeling drained,

Let's spend a little time in the heart with that.

And so just taking a moment first,

Taking time first to just notice how you're feeling,

Noticing what's true.

If you have fatigue,

If you have stuckness,

If you have a feeling of kind of being a gerbil on a wheel,

If there's any of that kind of feeling,

Just noticing it.

It's going to be uncomfortable usually and so we want to push past it or push it down or reach for something else.

Just encouraging us to notice that there's room to feel that way and there's also room to not want to feel that way.

Persistence can sometimes become a mindless movement in a direction.

And so sometimes the medicine for a lack of persistence is to really notice what is it that you are persisting toward.

What is it that you are doing over and over and over again and why?

So let's just take a moment with that persistence,

That movement and just stop,

Stop,

Stop the movement and not stopping the movement to collapse and to throw it away or to turn away or to move in a different direction.

Opening the heart,

Letting the heart bow,

Letting the head bow,

Noticing the exhaustion.

Yeah,

That's it.

Asking for love and compassion,

Asking for mercy and freedom.

Persistence doesn't work if it feels like a sentence,

If it feels like punishment,

If it feels unrewarding.

So let's check a few things that the heart may be believing about persistence that is undermining it.

The first one is does the heart or does the mind,

Do you somehow believe that a complete and radical change of circumstance or situation with your business is right around the corner?

It should have already arrived or it's meant to be arriving really soon that if you just went around this one more corner,

Persisting through that over and over and over again is really demoralizing.

If there's a belief,

Even an unconscious belief that's telling you,

If I just do this one more thing,

It's all going to be easy.

It's all going to change.

See if you can find that belief,

If that's a belief that's been swimming around in your being that you've been chasing with your persistence.

There are times that things do change suddenly,

But it's usually on the tail end of a lot of foundational work over time.

One of the truisms in the world of business,

In the world of personal development,

In the world of life,

In the world is that overnight successes are often years in the making.

This doesn't mean that your business will take years and years before it's in a better place.

That's not true at all.

But if you also are holding unrealistically short timelines,

It can be so demoralizing.

So just taking a moment,

Finding that,

Bringing in the remembrance and the love,

Of course you're wanting to reach some ease sooner rather than later.

Bringing in the remembrance,

Calling the name of the divine through the open doorway of your heart.

And what happens to your sense of persistence if you can embrace a longer timeline,

If you can embrace a 18 months,

Two year,

Three year timeline.

And that on the road of persistence,

There's rooms,

There's room for breaks,

For breaths,

For celebrations,

For joy,

For ease.

And that brings me to the other belief that I want to have you check in on around persistence.

If the belief that persisting until you reach some quote unquote finish line is the only way to achieve ease,

Is the only way that you're allowed to celebrate or to stop or to rest.

And that any stopping or resting before that point is somehow stolen,

Illicit,

Not allowed,

Must be hurried through,

Only to stop the bare minimum to catch your breath so that you can continue.

Just notice if that belief is swimming around because that would make persistence really exhausting.

Hmm.

What if in your persistence over time,

What if it were really true that you are allowed to celebrate,

That you are allowed to rest until you are fully nourished,

That you are allowed to take your time,

That there is no rush in any particular moment.

Hmm.

Hmm.

Hmm.

Notice what happens to your commitment and your persistence.

If you are allowed to embrace a longer,

Kinder timeline,

And if persistence also includes resting and celebrating and moving at a pace that is truly nourishing,

What happens to your heart,

The heart of your business as you face the divine and receive a divine form of persistence?

Hmm.

Hmm.

Noticing any authentic gratitude or appreciation for anything that you experienced,

Letting yourself express that to the divine while you continue to drink in persistence,

While you continue to drink in the divine form of persistence.

Hmm.

Taking a nice,

Gentle breath,

Bringing your attention back.
