Meditation to Open the Heart by Marcia Paige Hamlin The intention of this meditation is to connect you to your infinite nature and your true essence which is an embodiment of pure love.

When we can soften our edges and open our heart,

A compassionate space within us awakens.

And in this space,

We can tune into the interconnectedness amongst all living beings.

We can feel into the unity and we can experience that oneness.

So to begin today,

I invite you to find a comfortable seat that may be sitting on the ground with your legs crossed or your feet out in front of you.

That could be sitting in a chair with your feet reaching or touching the ground.

That could be resting comfortably on your back,

Perhaps a pillow under your head and under the backs of your knees.

And when you've wiggled and adjusted enough to find that comfortable space,

Whatever is working for your body today,

I invite you to close your eyes,

Feeling your eyelids gently touching and allowing your senses to turn inward.

As your physical being begins to rest here in stillness,

Allow your awareness to fully arrive.

Perhaps you notice whether there's a sense of spaciousness in the mind or in the body.

Perhaps instead of spaciousness,

You notice a sense of tightness or constriction.

Or maybe there's an overall sense of balance or equanimity or indifference without judging or analyzing or the need to label.

Just come to compassionately witness where you are at today,

Approaching yourself with a sense of openness,

A sense of curiosity and also a sense of honesty.

And both your mind and body have entered the space of stillness,

I invite you to begin to notice your breath.

Tuning in to each in breath and each out breath.

Perhaps you even notice the subtle movements required to complete each breath,

The expansion of your lungs,

Your belly,

Your chest on the inhale and subsequently the fall on the exhale.

Maybe you can even witness the spaciousness or the tension in your breath.

On your next inhale,

We'll begin to consciously deepen the breath,

Filling up from the low belly,

Allowing that breath to inflate our lungs,

Our chest,

Our heart space grows bigger as our spine begins to lengthen,

We can pull that breath towards the crown of our head.

And exhale,

Shoulders roll down and around the back,

Arms fall heavy in their sockets,

The hands resting out in front of you.

Perhaps you begin to feel the sitz bones rooting into the surface beneath you if you're sitting up or you feel a grounding into the earth beneath you if you're laying down.

We'll do that a couple more times.

Inhale,

Feeling that expansion across the front body,

That lengthening in the spine,

The chin slightly tucks under so the neck becomes an extension of the spine as the crown of the head reaches towards the sky above.

And exhale,

Slow and steady,

Finding a sense of ease,

A sense of yielding,

Of melting,

Of complete surrender to this moment.

One more time,

Inhale and complete exhale,

Allowing the breath to return back to its natural state.

I now invite you to set an intention.

This could be an intention for your meditation today or this could be an intention for the rest of your day,

Your week,

Your month.

Whatever is calling to you,

Let your intuition guide you.

And if nothing is coming to mind,

Allow your intention to be simple.

It could be to be here now.

And allowing that attention to go and begin to settle your inner gaze or it's also called the Drishti point at the sacred space of the heart.

Allowing your awareness to focus on a space that is beyond our physical heart into a space deep within that is infinite and it's full of endless unconditional love.

Can also or even imagine it like a light traveling into a space that's deep within you.

Maybe even moving to unlock some sort of door,

To unlock a space that we normally reserve just for specific people or specific moments in our lives.

That space where we feel that infinite,

That unconditional love,

That pure love.

And as you move to open the space,

Begin to feel how good it is to access it intentionally.

Allow that love to radiate out of the space and begin to fill your whole being.

You can imagine this love moving like a light.

It could be a green light connected to the color of the heart chakra or pink light if that resonates with you more.

Whatever it is,

Allow this light,

This energy,

Fill all the spaces of your being.

Moving through your legs all the way to the tips of your toes,

Moving through your arms all the way to the tips of your fingers,

Filling each and every nook and cranny until your whole being is radiating with love.

Imagine this free flowing love,

I invite you to give love and acceptance to that aspect of you that you judge or are critical towards.

Really filling each gap,

Every nook,

Every cranny,

The bottom of every rock,

All of our shadow spaces so that this love is penetrating every aspect of you.

Perhaps this love begins to leak out of your physical borders and into the space around you.

And if today you're having a hard day,

I invite you to stay right here,

Just sending yourself love.

That is your highest level of practice today.

But if you'd like to continue on,

I invite you to recall the people that you love most in your life and begin sending them your love too.

This may be your family,

This may be your intimate relationship or partner,

This may be your friends,

Your pets,

And even extending that love to departed souls that are no longer with you in body,

But with you in spirit.

Recalling each of them one by one,

Spending time with each and every single one of them,

Enough time to even make out some of the features of their faces.

You can perhaps even imagine them smiling back at you as they receive your love,

They feel that warmth.

How good does it feel to see them happy,

To see them loved,

And to be the love,

The embodiment of the love that's giving it to them?

Now with your loved ones full of love as well,

Begin to extend that love outwards once more.

Allow that love to penetrate to all beings everywhere.

Allow that love to move to all of the people walking this earth.

And in that love,

Allow it to carry the intention that all beings everywhere may be happy,

May be at peace,

And may be free from suffering.

Notice what it feels like to have this unconditional pure love radiating from you,

Not only filling you up and filling the people you love most up,

But also extending it out to all living beings on this earth.

This love that we reserve for just specific people and specific moments,

It's not finite,

It's boundless,

It's infinite,

And it's ours to give freely unconditionally.

Now I invite you to recall a difficult situation,

Thinking about a person that may be causing you pain,

Challenging you,

Maybe someone that you can feel yourself tighten or constrict around.

I invite you to send your love to that person or that situation too.

And as you send this love to them,

Try to understand,

Then in order for them to act against their true nature and cause you pain,

That they must be in pain and suffering themselves.

Infuse this love that you're giving to this difficult person with compassion in your understanding that they are experiencing their own pain and their own suffering.

Send forgiveness and wishes that they may be happy and at peace.

If it's possible,

Imagine a smile come across their face as they receive your love,

Knowing that it's something that they're in need of too.

Maybe notice if there's a little bit of an opening within you,

A little less constriction or tension.

Just feel how good it feels to be full of love and to see all those around you full of love too.

And when you're ready,

Moving beyond the people,

The human beings that walk this earth,

Let's send love to all the things and places and beings that we inhabit this universe with,

Knowing that we're all interconnected and bounded in some way because our earth is held at such a delicate balance by all of the many elements at play in this universe.

I invite you to send love to the earth,

Its natures,

Its creatures,

All of the animals,

The stars,

The planets,

The cosmos,

May they all be happy and at peace.

And as you send your love out into these far away places,

Feel how boundless,

How infinite your love truly is.

And when you're ready,

Bring your love back to yourself.

With all that love you've sent outward,

See it radiating back into your being.

As you fill up with love once more,

Know that this love for self is the most important love you can give.

The more freely you love yourself,

The more freely you can love others.

Notice whether your edges have softened.

Can you breathe into those edges,

Those walls,

Those barriers,

Any of those areas that are separating?

Can you allow this love that you're full with dissolve them even just by a little bit more?

On your next inhale,

Bringing your hands together at heart center that may be in prayer pose with the thumbs touching the center of the chest or that may be with your hands on top of the heart space one over another.

With your being full of love,

I invite you to affirm silently in your head,

May all beings everywhere including myself be happy,

Be at peace,

And be free from their causes of suffering.

Know that this is a space you can come back to at any time,

In any moment.

In your final moments,

Please thank yourself for doing this work,

For opening your heart.

It's a selfless act that uplifts the entire collective.

Taking one more big clearing breath together.

On your next inhale,

I invite you to fill up allowing it to be your biggest breath of the day.

Your entire lungs inflate,

The heart space grows bigger,

Pulling that breath all the way to the crown of your head.

And on your exhale,

Open mouth,

Lying breath,

Letting everything that does not serve you go.

When you're ready,

Allowing the eyes to gently flutter open as you invite small movements into the fingers and toes and awaken yourself into a new loving and more compassionate way of being.

Namaste.

Namaste.
