Hello,

How are you?

A few weeks ago I had a revelation.

There is a function that our brain does that we are so used to that we don't pay attention to it.

And honestly,

It is something that helps us to live.

It is not a bad or negative function.

However,

When we use it in a negative way,

It becomes a huge break that prevents us in many cases from achieving our dreams.

And to talk about it,

I will read a text.

I usually don't use religious content in my audios.

However,

This parable perfectly illustrates what I want to share.

This is from Matthew chapter 20.

The parable of the workers in the vineyard.

For the kingdom of heaven is like a land owner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.

He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into the vineyard.

About nine in the morning,

He went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing.

He told them,

You also go and work in my vineyard and I will pay you whatever is right.

So they went.

He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing.

About five in the afternoon,

He went out and found still others standing around.

He asked them,

Why have you been standing here all day doing nothing?

Because no one has hired us,

They answered.

He said to them,

You also go and work in my vineyard.

When the evening came,

The owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,

Call the workers and pay them their wages,

Beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.

The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.

So when those came who were hired first,

They expected to receive more.

But each one of them also received a denarius.

When they received it,

They began to grumble against the landowner.

These who were hired last worked only for one hour,

They said,

And you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.

But he answered to one of them.

I'm not being unfair to you,

Friend.

Didn't you agree to work for a denarius?

Take your pay and go.

I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you.

Don't I have the right to do what I want with my money?

Or are you envious because I am generous?

Well,

In case you didn't guess,

The function that I was talking about is comparison.

We are very used to comparing everything.

And as I said at the beginning,

It is an important function.

It allows us to learn and live.

But if we use comparisons to feel bad because someone already has what we don't,

Or even because our life was better before in one or other way,

That doesn't allow us to have a positive attitude,

Which is paramount to pursue our dreams.

Comparisons can be the origin of all negative feelings.

Don't leave thinking what you no longer are or about the things you lost.

Don't look at what others have already achieved.

Be grateful for what you have today and for who you are.

And start from that point to dream of all the experiences you want to live.

Everything changes and when we accept that fact,

We can accept the changes that we will live and also plan to do some of our own.

This life is not a competition to see who has more money,

Love or health.

It is a gift that we all have received.

The sun rises for everyone.

And it doesn't matter if someone reached any goal before you did,

Or if it was easier for them.

We are all born and we will live someday.

What do you plan to do with the time you have in your hands?

If you want to know when I have new audios for you,

Follow me here on Inside Timer.

See many blessings.

Loved this audio, comparisons have two sides, like everything in life. The negative part is that it can convert people in envious and dangerous persons, and the positive that because of comparison people start being better studens, workers, partners, etc. Personally, I do not compare myself with no one, I am a Martian. That is why once after years of suffering and almost drowning in my own problems, I realized by comparison, that almost everyone had a source of help, but me. Then I clamored to my dead loved ones, not having a living human being to whom to go. The rest of the story, you know. Comparison was at the end good to me. By the way, I love to give: "¿No me es licito hacer lo que quiero con lo mio? ¿O tienes tu envidia, porque yonsoy bueno? Asi los primeros seran postreros, y los postreros primeros; porque muchos son llamados, mas pocos escogidos." I am chosen, and happy to be.

Nicely presented. I appreciate the way you handled the inclusion of the religious text, too. Though you made the assumption that others would know your citation meant it came from the Bible, the fact is, the parable itself contained zero religious-specific content or reference. It was simply housed in a religious text. This was very refreshing for me, as though I grew up in that environment, very early on my spiritual path turned a different direction, and due to some unpleasant experiences during that time, I very much prefer to avoid material with overt references to Christianity. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for the gentle introduction and beautifully selected passage. As a person who has worked in the mental health field for nearly two decades now, I wholeheartedly agree with you that the brain and the function of comparison can indeed be paralyzing when applied at inappropriate times and ways. The fact that this happens without our being aware of it much of the time only serves to strengthen the clear need to become more aware if our thoughts - all of them - and learn to release them gracefully and swiftly so as not to discourage ourselves from striving to fulfill the potential held within our beautiful selves. Thank you for sharing this insight with the world. I see you and the light within you. Be well. 🤲🏻❤️🤲🏻
