Hello,
And welcome to this guided meditation for artists.
Often when we sit down to be creative or make art,
We're met with a wall of resistance.
In our everyday waking state,
The brain typically operates in beta or high beta brainwaves,
States associated with alertness,
Problem solving,
And sometimes stress.
However,
Studies have shown that the creative flow state is more easily accessed when the brain shifts into theta brainwaves,
Those slower,
More relaxed states linked to deep meditation,
Daydreaming,
And imagination.
So to get in the quote-unquote mood to make art,
It can be incredibly helpful to use meditation as a tool to slow down our brainwaves.
This helps us to get started on the right foot,
Or to give ourselves a creative head start.
Now settle in and take this meditation as an opportunity to shift your brainwaves into a more relaxed and receptive state.
Find a comfortable position with your hands gently resting on your lap,
And close your eyes.
Begin by taking some slow,
Deep breaths.
In through your nose and out through your mouth.
Take a moment to tune into your body.
Notice any tension or tightness.
Relax your shoulders,
Unclench your jaw,
And soften the muscles in your forehead.
Let your belly be soft.
Let yourself be held by this moment.
Continue to breathe deeply.
Let the inhale fill your lungs completely.
Hold for a brief pause,
Then exhale fully.
Feel how good it feels to simply breathe.
Nowhere to be,
Nothing to do,
Just this,
You,
Here,
Now.
As this meditation progresses,
Your mind may begin to wander,
That's okay.
This is a natural part of the process.
Each time you notice your thoughts drifting,
Gently guide yourself back by repeating the word,
Stay,
Stay,
Stay.
Like training a puppy,
You are teaching your mind to return to presence over and over again.
Keep breathing,
Focus on the rhythm,
Deep,
Full breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Now,
If your mind is especially active,
Another helpful cue is the word,
Relax,
Stay,
Relax,
Breathe.
Remind your brain there are no problems to solve right now.
You are gently inviting your mind to loosen its grip on control.
Relax,
Stay,
Breathe.
And with each breath,
You are softly slowing down your brainwaves.
Take the next few minutes and enjoy the stillness and the feeling of your breath,
Deep,
Slow inhales and long,
Slow exhales.
Now that your body and mind are relaxed,
We're going to gently tune into a series of feelings that open the door to intuitive creativity.
The purpose of this is to lift your energy.
As I say each word,
Feel the ease of it,
Breathe into it.
Let yourself tune into the essence and energy behind each one.
Relaxation,
Ease,
Flow,
Joyful,
Playful,
Satisfied,
Fulfilled.
Overflowing,
Fun,
Peace.
Let these feelings ripple through you,
Softening,
Opening and aligning you with the creative energy that is already within.
And now,
Slowly begin to bring your awareness back to the space around you.
Wiggle your fingers and toes,
Maybe roll your shoulders or stretch gently.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes,
Softly,
Slowly.
You've created space within yourself.
Your energy is lifted,
Your mind is calm,
And your creativity is awake.
Trust what wants to come through you.
There's no right way,
Just your way.
