Practical Magic, in its simplest form, is all about the ritual. A ritual is a simple set of actions practiced in an intentional way that is infused with meaning. We infuse a ritual with meaning through intended purpose, association, and repetition. When we create the ritual and every time we engage in it, we are deepening our relationship with our own power and free will. You almost certainly already have some morning ‘rituals’ such as brushing your teeth or making your coffee. To be honest, it is almost that simple! All I will ask you to add is intention. Intention infuses the ritual with meaning and acts a little like casting a spell, in this case casting a spell for a day that is as good, safe, productive, or easy as possible.

Hello and welcome to Practical Magic for Mental Health.

My name is Lynn and I'll be your guide in creating this morning ritual.

Practical Magic in its simplest form is all about the ritual.

A ritual is a simple set of actions practiced in an intentional way that is infused with meaning.

We infuse a ritual with meaning through intended purpose,

Association,

And repetition.

When we create the ritual,

And every time we engage in it,

We are deepening our relationship with our own power and free will.

It's as if the ritual over time develops its own energetic charge,

Which can then re-inspire us.

By practicing rituals,

We are bringing awareness and aliveness to our own ability to heal,

Protect,

And influence our world and our lives.

In this way,

We can learn how to be spiritually accountable to the existence we are all co-creating.

As you listen to the following prompts for creating your own Practical Magic ritual for mental health,

I invite you to find a comfortable place to stand,

Sit,

Or lie.

And please allow yourself a few of those deep,

Slow,

And gentle belly breaths while you receive these instructions.

You are listening to ritual number one,

Starting your day.

Our first ritual is a simple one to start the day off right.

You almost certainly already have some morning rituals,

Such as brushing your teeth or making your coffee.

To be honest,

It is almost that simple.

All I will ask you to add is intention.

Intention infuses the ritual with meaning,

And acts a little like casting a spell.

In this case,

Casting a spell for a day that is as good,

Safe,

Productive,

Or easy as possible.

For your starting the day ritual,

You have some choices.

For the action that you'll take,

Please choose something that will be easy,

Even on your hardest mornings,

To stick with.

For example,

It can be sitting and taking a few deep breaths.

It can be a little stretching or meditative movement.

Or it can be drinking one glass of water each morning before anything else.

But truly,

If mornings are rough or rushed for you,

Or you know you'll soon be skipping any ritual that you try to add,

And I see you,

I have a defiant streak as well,

Why not embed your starting the day ritual into something you'll be doing no matter what?

For example,

How about stirring a little honey or cinnamon or milk into your coffee or tea,

Along with a spell for a good day.

Along with whatever actions you choose,

And remember to keep this one very simple,

You will say,

And this could be allowed under your breath or proclaim it loudly in your mind,

You will say a few words to set an intention for a good day.

Practical magic is about making life better.

There's nothing that will make life perfect.

Every one of us will have unpleasant or uncomfortable things happen some days,

No matter what intention we started our day with.

I like to honour the unpredictable trickster spirits by factoring their mischief into my practice.

So with that in mind,

I suggest a spell such as,

May this day be filled with as many blessings as I am permitted.

Or thank you for gracing today with ease,

Even in the face of challenges.

It can be as simple as that or as elaborate as you wish.

So I invite you to take a moment now,

Or as soon as we're finished,

To breathe.

Turn toward your inner guidance and decide for yourself,

What will your starting the day practical magic ritual look like?

Before we wrap up,

Let's talk about how this can help with your mental health.

Starting your day with a simple intentional ritual helps you to be more present in your life and raises your consciousness.

Instead of blindly stumbling out of bed and into the demands of society,

You are reclaiming your sovereignty by performing a morning ritual.

Having a sense of control and power at the beginning of the day helps to calm the nervous system out of fight or flight mode.

And setting a positive intention helps us focus on the good to combat our tendency toward a negative bias,

Which means our tendency to only notice the bad things.

We have so much more power to influence our world than we are taught or told.

Infusing your morning with a practical magic ritual such as this can make a genuine impact,

Both energetically and in the three-dimensional world.

Finally,

The present moment awareness that a ritual affords can be one of the best antidotes to stress and anxiety.

I truly hope you've enjoyed this little session and that you have some new ideas for how to infuse your life with rituals to nurture your mental health.
