The pebble.

For just a few moments,

Or as long as you like,

I invite you to focus on your breathing as it comes in and as it goes out.

There is no worry.

Your lungs do exactly as they were designed to do in the original blueprint,

The time of creation.

Just notice.

Simply be aware of the vibration of your breath as you breathe in and the warmth as it goes out.

For now,

Please focus on your beautiful breathing and allow the steady,

Peaceful rhythm of breathing in and breathing out to lull you as you go inward to that sacred space,

The space of knowing.

Knowing what you've always known and perhaps forgot.

In this sacred space,

I invite you to take a deep breath of healing light.

Perhaps it comes straight from the light of Christ.

Simply notice the color of that light.

It is the perfect color for you at this time.

As you breathe in that healing light,

Please notice your face and the stress,

Anxiety,

Or pain that's been accumulating there.

The worried forehead.

The tears shed from your eyes.

Your ears from the hurtful things you heard.

Your nose,

Your jaw,

Your chin.

Simply gather it all up.

And as you exhale,

Turn all of it into warm smoke.

The past is over.

It's finished.

It's done.

And the future never comes.

All of that is illusion.

It is only today.

Allow that smoke to flow down through your body,

Down your legs,

And out into the universe.

Allow yourself to be more deeply relaxed than you've ever been.

And now perhaps,

Notice the backpack you're carrying full of heavy rocks.

The grudges you're holding against others.

When you refuse to forgive,

You suffer.

Be aware of the tension and pain in your neck,

Shoulders,

And back.

Your arms and hands.

Once again,

Another beautiful healing breath.

Gather up that backpack,

All the stress and pain and suffering.

As you exhale,

Turn it all into smoke and allow it to flow down through your body,

Down your legs,

And out into the universe.

Allow yourself to be more deeply relaxed than you've ever been.

When you notice the stress in your chest,

Your broken heart,

Your tight lungs,

Often feeling you can't breathe from anxiety,

Please notice the knot in your stomach,

The feeling of unease.

The fight,

Flight,

Or freeze sensation in your legs and feet from fear.

So simply be aware and recognize it.

Once again,

Simply take a deep,

Beautiful breath of healing light.

Gather it all up.

And as you exhale,

Turn it into smoke and allow it to flow down your body,

Down your legs,

And out into the universe.

It is nothing but illusion.

Another wonderful healing breath as you exhale.

Allow yourself to be more deeply relaxed than you've ever been.

Be still,

Sweet child,

And let everything go.

And possibly you notice in front of you a beautiful forest of beautifully colored trees,

The emerald green spruce,

The aspen with its autumn leaves of yellow,

Orange,

And red,

And the deep,

Rich maroon of the oak brush.

Notice there's a path at your feet inviting you into this enchanting forest.

As you walk on this inviting path,

You notice a little pain in your foot and realize you must have a pebble in your shoe.

It's not too bad.

It's actually been there for a long time.

You are sort of used to it.

Right now you're more interested in the forest than the pain.

As you move into the forest,

Notice the beautiful flowers,

The purple columbine,

The red of the indian paintbrush,

The pink and yellow poppies,

The bluebells and larks' purr.

You love the smell of each flower.

There is a gentle warm breeze on your skin,

And you can hear the rustling of the leaves in the trees.

You feel very pleased when a beautiful mama deer and a precious fawn greet you as you walk along the path.

As you look into the deer's big brown eyes,

You know her.

They accompany you as you limp along the path.

A number of snow white rabbits join you on the other side.

It is pleasant to feel their soft fur as they brush against you.

A bluebird sits on your shoulder and sings to you.

A colorful butterfly flits before you,

And a beautiful gray wolf and a very large bear join your group.

You feel safe in their presence.

And somehow you know that you're all family,

That you've known them for a very long time.

As you move along the path,

The pain in your foot gets much worse.

You must find a place to sit down and take off your shoe.

As you continue to hobble down the path,

A golden lion and a precious white lamb,

Who seem to be best friends,

Join your group.

You're grateful for their companionship.

The pain in your foot is getting intense.

Finally,

You see a space ahead,

An opening in the trees with a nice warm rock to sit on.

So you can take off your shoe and get rid of that terrible pain from the pebble that now feels like it's made of sharp glass.

As you limp to the rock,

You feel the love and companionship your companions have for you,

Your friends and guardians,

Your protectors.

You lean over and untie your shoe.

Finally,

You're able to reach the pebble that's been giving you such pain.

As you swing your arm to throw it as far away as you can,

This beautiful opening becomes even lighter.

Brilliant.

And you're more than surprised to see the Savior standing before you.

He explains that the pebble represents the grudges and judgments that you've been holding against others and yourself.

And the pain that you've been feeling is not caused from the pebble.

The pebble is a symbol of your refusal to forgive.

That's where the pain comes from.

Your true essence is love.

And when you move away from love,

You suffer.

The only way to get rid of the pain is to forgive.

Perhaps you think to yourself,

He can't possibly understand the hurtful,

Condemning events and experiences that have happened to you.

You feel there's no way you can forgive,

And why should you?

He simply says,

I will take your burden,

Your backpack,

But only when you're ready to give it to me.

Finally,

You understand.

You turn and see the people you feel have hurt and harmed you.

And you say to them,

I love you.

You are my brother or sister.

And I forgive you for anything you did or didn't do that I felt hurt me.

I do not know what caused you to say or do what you did.

I cannot judge you.

I forgive you.

And I ask you to forgive me of anything I've said or done that offended you in any way.

And then you know to say to yourself,

And I forgive myself for holding onto it for so long and causing my own pain.

That your feet is a basket.

And into that basket,

You put all the anger,

Hurt,

Frustration,

Aggravation,

Fear,

Anxiety,

Depression,

All the negative feelings you have ever felt.

Be sure to get it all.

Now pick up the basket.

Turn.

And the Savior is standing there waiting.

He smiles as you give him the basket and thanks you for letting him be your Savior.

He puts the basket behind him.

And then he steps aside.

And where you expected to see the basket,

You see something else instead.

Just notice what that is.

Then perhaps if you like,

He puts his hands on your head and gives you a short blessing of comfort,

Love,

And encouragement.

And then he speaks of his love for you.

And he reminds you to remember that you are a creator and that you are love.

And knowing that a change of heart has taken place as the Savior departs.

Simply take a deep breath.

And when you're ready,

Come back here.

I invite you,

My sweet child,

Go now in peace and love.

Let your light shine.

And have a blessed day.

And so it is.

Gentle and loving. I have heard the analogy before about unloading the heavy burdens we carry like rocks in a backpack. It works for me.
