Do you suffer from self-judgment of your thoughts? You are not separate in your suffering! Part of the human experience is identifying with our thoughts. But it's important to remember: You are not your thoughts! You are the one who is aware of the thoughts. In this quick 5-minute guided meditation, I'll help you steer away from self-judgment and toward gratitude for your own intention to care for your Self. Practically all suffering is born out of attachment. The ego wants to be reflected back to itself through everything it can sense. Buddhism identifies thinking as the sixth sense. Just like we are not our smells, our sight, or the sounds we hear, we are not our thoughts! Thoughts are powerful and can shape our reality. I recommend listening to this guided meditation whenever you are bogged down with thought-identification. Thank you for choosing to lean into the light with me.

Transcript

Welcome to this introductory five-minute guided meditation from Luminous Leaning to help you lean into the light.

Arrive fully in your comfortable seat with your spine upright yet relaxed.

Sit with your palms facing upward to receive fully the universe's positive energy for your day.

Breathe in deeply through your nose,

Hold for a few seconds,

And gently release out through the nose.

Take another cleansing breath in,

Deeply filling your lungs so they expand fully.

Hold and release.

Allow your breath to become normal.

Quietly notice where your awareness is.

Perhaps there's a comfortable place in your mind where the awareness likes to rest,

Even if it brings up negative associations for your ego.

These neural pathways were formed by the repetitive thoughts,

But always remember that you are not your thoughts.

We do not have to attach any emotion or longing to our thoughts.

We can become the noticer of the thoughts,

And it is most important to bring a spirit of non-judgment when we notice our thoughts in our meditation practice.

If at any point you find yourself judging your thoughts or judging yourself for being bad at meditation,

Just remember you have already arrived.

There is nothing left to do.

Your intention today was to expand your awareness and to meet yourself at the highest point of that awareness.

From a non-judgmental state,

Your intention was to care for yourself and to bring a spirit of love and positivity to your spirit right here,

Right now.

Take a deep breath in,

Hold that intention at the top,

And release.

See if you can feel the breath from the inside out,

Cleansing your lungs,

Your heart,

Your entire circulatory system,

And the nervous system.

Give yourself a little grace today.

Remember that you are doing your very best,

And you are worthy of grace and love and light.

You are a being of light.

You are here on this earth to bring joy and love to others,

But it starts right here in your meditation practice.

Taking a deep breath in,

Sweep the arms overhead,

Bringing your palms together to touch at heart center.

Maybe just say to yourself,

Thank you for taking the time.

Breathe in deeply through the nose,

And release.

Namaste.
