This story tells us about something as complicated as it is true.

When we refer to our final destiny,

To the sacred,

Or to God if we speak in theistic terms,

We find that it is an unattainable question,

Ineffable.

That is,

We cannot explain it.

We cannot approach the truth with capital letters from our intellect.

Some religions do not allow or have not allowed naming or drawing gods and saints.

The reason is clear,

We cannot grasp the divine essence neither with our strokes nor with our reasoning.

God is immeasurable,

Unfathomable,

Unknowable.

To experience it directly and in its splendor,

In some way we have to disappear.

Our personality must be diluted in that essential nature.

So,

We may have experiences that give us a glimpse of this ultimate truth.

Mystical experiences,

Spiritual insights.

But these experiences come to us at a time when we are not functioning in a conceptual way,

Or at least we receive them through a different route.

Let us remember that the riddles of Zen Buddhism,

The Koans,

Aim precisely at this,

To get us out of our linear and logical way of reasoning.

Often,

To translate or share these fortunate divine connections or pieces of truth,

We return to our conceptual mode of thought,

Words and ideas,

Where we handle ourselves more easily,

But at the cost of sacrificing much of that essence.

Since we cannot reflect it faithfully with our usual form of expression.

If,

To this impossibility,

We add our lowest tendencies,

Such as greed,

Envy,

Fear,

Etc.

,

We will easily understand the tranquility of Mara,

This evil Buddhist deity,

Who,

By the way,

Is related to our usual obscuration by duality.

Mara is calm because of the likelihood that this piece of truth found by our character won't lead him to definitive enlightenment,

Precisely because of this tendency to rely on our common sensory experience of conceptual and analytical thinking,

And also because of our egoistic tendencies.

We all know the dark side of religions.

Therefore,

To advance on the spiritual path,

Continue to focus on your sensory perceptions,

As these will become more and more refined,

Transcending the senses themselves as we usually experience them,

And our plenitude will open the doors to the Absolute Truth.
