Welcome to this Yoga Nidra.

My name is Lucy McCarthy.

This practice is a mystical journey into our intrinsic genius of intuition and insight.

A remembrance of our ability to see beyond the visible realms,

To perceive and receive information directly from the infinite,

To fill ourselves up from the well source within.

In order to prepare for this journey,

We will take the posture of Shavasana,

Corpse pose,

Lying on the ground,

Face up,

With support for the body in order to allow for maximum comfort and release.

A thin pillow or blanket underneath the back of the skull,

A light eye covering and a couple of cushions or a bolster for the backs of the knees all allow for your body to feel held and relaxed.

Set yourself up symmetrically,

The arms gently away from the body,

Palms facing up.

Make any adjustments to your posture so that you can surrender into deep stillness for the duration of the practice.

If you haven't already,

Close your physical eyes so that we may open ourselves to our inner eye to be guided by our inner vision.

Take a few conscious,

Slower and deeper breaths.

Envision light washing up and down your body.

As you inhale,

Light flowing from feet to head.

As you exhale,

Light pouring down from head to feet.

Everywhere the light touches,

A clearing and quietening takes place.

The quieter we become,

The more we can hear.

Let any surface ripples of disturbance or agitation gently begin to settle so we can plunge into the sacred depths within.

The practice of yoga nidra is a sacred and ancient art form that invites us to lay down our persona,

To shed any social masking or attachment to all the identities we carry around with us on a daily basis so that we can uncover our true essence.

Through the process of self-observation and profound relaxation,

We take off the blinkers of our limited vision so that we can once more open ourselves to the vast mystery of it all.

Let the breath come back into its natural state,

Soften into the here and now.

The practice of yoga nidra begins now.

Bring your awareness to the brow center,

The seat of our consciousness,

And open yourself to receive your truest inner vision of that which you most long for.

We call this sankalpa,

An ancient coding of our becoming.

From beyond the space of the surface mind,

Feel into what it is you most sincerely wish to embody this lifetime.

You may think of a quality or a value that you most wish to express.

We state our sankalpa in positive language,

In the present tense,

Starting with the word I,

Followed by whichever word or words best state what you are calling in.

Examples could be,

I trust my intuition,

I am at peace,

I am whole.

Allow yourself to receive yours from within the inner I.

Then state it three times silently within,

With conviction,

Clarity,

And courage.

We will now guide our inner vision through the physical layer of our experience,

The body.

We will rotate our consciousness progressively through various parts of the body.

Each body part named,

Simply take your awareness to that area,

Observe what you can feel,

And then anoint with the sacred sound of OM in each area.

We will move through a sacred circuit of 61 points in the body,

Creating an inner pilgrimage within.

As the light of our awareness touches each body part,

A flame of recognition and awakening will be lit.

Now pull your awareness into your brow center,

The space between the two eyebrows,

And the mystic seat of our consciousness.

Notice what sensations you sense here at the brow center.

Then with reverence,

Anoint the brow with the sacred sound of OM.

Every body part named,

Feel and place the sacred sound of OM.

Back into the brow center,

The seat of our mystic consciousness,

Feel the whole body,

The whole body,

The whole body felt now,

Whole body vibrating with the healing enlivening sound of om,

The great yes,

Inner body bright with the light of your own awareness,

We will now journey into the subtler layer of our energetic body,

Bring your awareness to your natural breath,

Observe the unobstructed flow of the breath coming in and going out,

Be wholeheartedly with your breath,

Observing the inner body expanding as you inhale,

The gentle softening and release as you exhale,

Resist any urge to control or change the breath,

Simply let the wonder and majesty of the breath reveal itself to you,

Spontaneously,

Effortlessly animating you from the inside out,

Now as you continue to follow the natural breath,

Begin to envision a river of light traveling up and down the central subtle inner psychic channel of the body,

As you inhale the river of light pours from the head down to the base of the pelvis,

As you exhale the river of light flows from the root back up the central channel to the crown,

This river of bright white brilliant light flowing up and down the central channel,

Now gently release that and bring your awareness once more to the third eye,

The brow center and ever so slightly back inwards towards the midbrain,

This point is known as Chidakash,

The seat of mystic consciousness,

A potent place of infinite possibilities and unlimited potentiality,

We will use this point as a home base to return to as we play with pairs of opposites,

What does it feel like to be mentally overstimulated,

To feel full to the brim in your mind,

Filled with dissonant information,

To feel overwhelmed,

Overcrowded and competing noise in your inner state of mind,

Call forth the sensation of mental overstimulation in your whole being now,

Now let that fall away,

What is it like when you feel the quality of spaciousness in your inner mind,

When there is a quality of inner quiet,

Bring forth the sensation of mental spaciousness,

Now release that fully and return your awareness back to the point in the midbrain,

Chidakash,

Now awaken the sensation of confusion,

What does confusion feel like,

Where does it land in your body,

Immerse your whole being in the state of confusion,

Notice any thought forms,

Visions or memories that arise when you awaken the feeling of confusion,

Now let that fall away,

And now conjure forth the feeling of clarity,

What does it feel like when you feel clear,

Spacious and steady in the field of your mind,

Fill your whole being with the sensation of clarity,

Now release that too,

And return your awareness to the point in the midbrain,

What does it feel like to be filled with mental dullness,

To feel an inertia of mind,

Uninspired,

Heavy,

Stagnant,

Fill yourself with this quality of mental dullness,

Notice where it registers within you,

The inability to be creative or open yourself to new ideas and insights,

Mental dullness,

Now surrender this feeling,

What does it feel like to be filled with a flash of insight,

To feel creative and inspired and suddenly struck by new and altered perceptions,

Profoundly awaken this sensation of insight,

A flash of recognition that you know to be immediately true,

Insight that comes from beyond the rational and logical mind,

Now completely let that go,

And return your awareness to the point in the midbrain,

The psychic seat of consciousness,

Aligned within the physical body with the pineal gland,

Imagine this small pine-shaped gland in the center of the brain,

And ask it to activate,

Trust that in the asking the body will follow suit,

We will now go on a journey of inner visioning into the psychic realm of our discernment and cosmic intellect,

A place of seeing beyond the day-to-day perceived realm of the material world,

Yet no less real,

Once more bring your awareness to that point in the midbrain,

The pineal gland,

And imagine as you bring a light of your awareness to the pineal gland that it lights up,

It begins to be filled with this brilliant bright white piercing light,

This small pine cone-shaped gland pulsating with this exquisite healing light,

As you watch it,

You start to see this bright light begins to burst out beyond the boundaries of the gland itself in all directions,

See the light bursting forth into the front brain,

Back into the back brain,

Upwards towards the crown of the head,

Downwards into the body,

Each point the light touches lit up,

Filled with insight and instant healing,

Continue to watch the light spread from the midbrain out in all directions until the whole inner body is filled with this pure white healing light,

Then begin to focus on the light that moves out directly horizontally from the pineal gland,

Bursting through the temples to the left and right sides,

Follow the lightning speed of the light moving out horizontally from the pineal gland left and right,

Follow the light further and further out to the left and right sides,

This brilliant bright white innately wise light traveling out along the horizons,

Follow the light,

Where does it take you?

Look around you,

What do you see?

What is this light illuminating?

What does this insight filled light have to share with you about what you have not been seeing clearly in your life?

Listen intently,

Open yourself to receive this information from this light source,

As you are bathed in this ethereal light,

All sense of separation disappears,

Only oneness remains,

Allow yourself to rest here a while,

In pure stillness,

Pure silence,

The quieter we become,

The more we hear,

Open yourself to higher states of consciousness that may reveal to you your true essence,

Now from this expanded oneness,

Once more your sankalpa,

Your I am statement,

Draws itself back into your field of awareness,

Once more state it three times silently in the fertile depths of the subconscious mind,

Invoke it with confidence,

Commitment and faith,

Slowly and steadily begin to descend your awareness back into the material realm of here and now,

Feeling the weight of your body connected to the solidity of the earth,

Notice any sounds meeting your ears from the far off environment,

Any sounds coming from close by,

Then with your awareness back into the inner body,

Feel it gently rising and falling in response to your breath,

The practice of yoga nidra is now complete,

To return back into the here and now,

Gently begin to deepen your breath as a way to return and reawaken from the journey we have been on together,

Gently move the fingers and the toes,

Then one by one hug the knees up into your chest,

Softly roll to one side,

And then pause here for a moment in this seed like position,

Notice how you feel now,

The quality of your inner mind,

And when you feel ready,

Slowly rise yourself up to a comfortable tall seat with the spine upright,

Gently bring the hands together in front of the heart in prayer,

A sacred gesture of coming back to a place of unity beyond all duality,

May we truly remember who and what we are at our most profound essence,

And any time we are seeking insight or clarity,

May we simply carve out the time to slow down,

Get quiet,

And turn inwards,

As above,

So below,

All is one,

Blessings.
