Welcome everyone to today's meditation,
Understanding the purpose of pain.
I invite you to get comfortable wherever you are,
Feet flat on the ground and sitting up nice and tall or perhaps laying down just letting the natural breath take over.
Just letting these thoughts and words wash over you like whispering willow trees flowing in the wind.
So let's begin to close the eyes gently.
Just listen as I guide you through this practice for understanding the purpose of pain.
Pain is uncomfortable,
Scary,
Oftentimes hard to decipher and hard to let go of.
There is chronic pain,
There is acute pain,
There is emotional pain and your body feels the emotion and the physical pain in much the same way.
So whether it was a breakup of some kind or a heart palpitation,
The physical and the emotional trigger the same response in your body and pain is always a call to recognize and understand there is something going on within ourselves,
Within the mind.
It gets to be transmuted and so when you are in awareness of what is going on in the physical body that is how you begin to uproot your unconscious beliefs,
Release whatever is holding you back and let go.
So think of a time in your life when you had a physical stressor or a physical pain.
Maybe it was the heart,
The lungs,
Shoulders,
Arms,
Legs,
Feet.
It can be any part of your body and go ahead place some awareness upon it.
Almost as if there was a screen in front of your face and you're watching it.
You're able to watch it unfold.
Maybe it was an acute stressor,
You tripped and fell,
Maybe an accident of some sort and in this theater of the mind that screen in front of you I want you to replay the moment before,
The moments during,
And the moments after.
Be an observer.
Our minds will hold on to these traumas as if they are currently happening until we begin to recognize and understand them as false.
Our bodies will hold on to trauma and pain both emotional and physical until we clear and accept those things that happened.
Accept our role in its creation,
Offer forgiveness and then let go.
Until it is cleared it will appear.
Until it is cleared it will appear.
This is work that you can do over time.
It may not be something you can let go of in one session.
It may take seconds,
Days,
Maybe months,
Even years perhaps to completely let go of that pain be it conscious or unconscious.
And this is the way to let go.
To experience it again in your mind go back to the moment,
Watch it unfolding and then ask yourself the question,
What was this teaching me?
How did this serve me and how can I move beyond it?
When we ask questions there is a mode of receptivity so the answers may come through your own mind,
Your own thoughts.
They may come through overheard conversations,
Something that you see on the internet or social media.
The answers may come in dreams when you are ready to receive them and not before.
So many times people ask questions and the answers seem like they are not coming.
Perhaps it's because you are not ready to let go.
But just know that every time you show up to find the purpose in your pain the answers will come.
And so let's do this practice again.
This time with an emotional stressor.
Think of a time in your life when you got angry,
Blew your lid,
Went into fits of rage and again in that theater of the mind watch it unfold.
See it unfold.
What happened right before?
What happened during?
And then what happened after?
And then we're going to add another layer to this almost as if we are in a rewind mode and we're watching it again and again.
But this time rewind back even further,
Back to childhood.
Back to a memory where what triggered you then was also a trigger as a child.
Could a rejection have been a rejection from childhood?
That moment on a playground or in a class where you feel rejected by your classmates,
Rejected by family?
Could that be the trigger that spurred you to the rejection of anger when it was a rejection by a lover or family or perhaps a new friend?
Until we understand and reveal the things that triggered us as children we will continue to create them in this life.
Those emotional stressors.
So when we do this practice we are working with the mind to bring up those memories and then begin to transmute it.
And so yet again we will ask to receive what was this lesson?
How did this make me feel then?
And how am I feeling now?
How can I work with this?
How can I become a better version of myself and move beyond this issue so that I don't create it again and again?
Remembering that when you ask you will receive when you are ready.
So if you ask these questions the answers may come instantaneously.
They may flow out of you and I invite you to write those down and get a sense of what was going on and what were you feeling.
Or it may come later today in a dream or you may have to do this practice repeatedly for the answers to come.
But whenever we are working through pain there is a gentleness to our practices.
We cannot force answers.
We cannot dig so rapidly.
It's like a gentle stroll rather than a sprint.
So take your time realizing the answers are always within.
Our minds are set to show them once we set the intention to receive.
And I invite you to remember all pain has purpose.
For bringing you back to the light.
For showing you what's going on inside the mind.
For reminding you to work towards healing and to give yourself the gift of awareness.
Set an intention to always be aware of those physical stressors.
My intention is to bring awareness whenever I am out of alignment.
When there is physical pain,
When there is emotional pain,
May I be awake so I may go looking and find all answers.
And I will also invite you after this practice ends to keep your eyes closed.
Staying with your body.
Perhaps having a conversation with all of those physical and emotional stressors so that you can begin to change.
All healing is mindfully available to me.
All healing is mindfully available to me.
Thank you for being here with me to uncover the parts waiting to be discovered.
I'll leave you time here to just listen to your body.
