Hi,

This is Lorraine and I'm so glad you're carving out some time today to meditate.

Today's meditation will focus on equanimity and it might seem like a big word but the truth is that it's really built into a meditation practice.

It's the idea that you can notice what's happening without judgment and realize that whatever comes up,

Whatever you feel,

Ultimately changes as time passes.

And in that you can find some freedom and some ease knowing that the nature of things shifts.

Nothing has to be good or bad.

You get really good at rolling with things,

Maybe even really good at watching them and observing them.

The way you would sit and watch the ocean waves or the way you can feel wind through the trees.

And so as you sit today,

Find that comfortable posture where you can be alert and relaxed.

You might be sitting or laying on your back and your eyes can be focused at a soft point or they can close completely.

And take a few moments to settle into your physical body.

It can help to bring a slight smile to your face.

It might feel funny but smiling releases dopamine,

Endorphins,

Serotonin into your bloodstream.

It relaxes your body and your brain and it allows you to come to your meditation from a positive place.

And from that place you can relax anything that's holding on or feels tight.

Take a deep breath and just notice how that feels.

Your body will be your anchor for today's meditation which means it'll help you stay present and you find the most noticeable sensation.

It might be your breath or maybe you can feel what's supporting the posture.

And you take another full breath to help you notice the quality of your mind.

It might be still and concentrated or it can be busy,

Distracted,

Even annoyed.

Can you meet whatever is happening with some acceptance,

Maybe even enthusiasm?

In meditation,

Challenging experiences are completely welcome.

They help you to get stronger in your resolve to stay present.

They build resilience.

As you stay with the moment through your breath and through your body,

Can you meet what you feel with friendliness and acceptance?

Let the present moment be as it is and maybe you say to yourself,

I allow.

That phrase creates a natural kindness and so as you stay here with your breath,

Connecting with your body,

You release struggle or a need to control or a need to change.

You see what is happening in this moment without getting caught up.

And starting over happens now and it happens again in this moment too.

You might repeat,

I allow.

I make space for what is.

And you're working with the challenge of staying in your meditation and remaining present and open.

You are continually developing the skills that come from dedicated meditation,

An open kindness,

An allowance,

A resolve.

And this is what you get to bring into your daily life,

Bringing your awareness back by opening your eyes,

Sitting upright or a little bit taller.

And there's that anchor of a breath in and a breath out.

It all comes with you.

Thank you for taking the time to meditate.

Share this openness in all that you do.

Have a great day.

Meet your Teacher
