Hello,

This is Lizaya and welcome to the meditations on the koshas.

This will be a meditation on the anamaya kosha,

The physical body.

The anamaya kosha is the first of five koshas.

Kosha means sheath.

We can think of a kosha as a dimension of ourselves.

The koshas are different,

Have different focuses,

But they all influence each other.

We can picture the Russian dolls where there's one big one,

A smaller one,

A smaller one.

That's how we can one way to look at the koshas.

So today,

Anamaya kosha,

Tuning in,

Being with your physical body.

Ana means food,

And so it's,

It's a literally means the food body and how we nourish ourselves with food and other things that support the health of the physical body.

Anamaya kosha tunes into the bones,

Muscles,

Tissues,

Joints,

Skin,

Ligaments,

The physical structure,

That which our energy and personality,

Thoughts,

Feelings,

Dreams,

And experience lives in.

So going into this physical body meditation,

Tune into your physical body.

Let yourself be in a comfortable sitting or laying position,

And begin to notice yourself as a physical being.

Tuning into your bones,

Your muscles,

Sensing the skin.

And notice how your physical body is feeling as you're tuning into it.

What do you notice?

Let's take a bit of time to gently move through the body with your awareness.

It doesn't have to be in any particular system,

Just floating awareness through the body.

Wave of awareness.

And just taking in with an open curiosity,

Whatever you feel,

What you find interesting.

And take a moment to sense the breath.

And feeling the movement of the physical body with the breath.

So when you inhale,

Notice where the body rises and expands.

And exhale how the body softens and maybe relaxes.

This practice of experiencing through and with the body.

I'd like you to choose one place in the physical body that would like some focus of your energy.

Just let your awareness go there.

Like a light that shines more directly in this one place.

Just notice how this feels to be focusing on this one place in the physical body.

As we offer our awareness here.

As we offer our presence.

We'll take a few more breaths focusing on this space.

Knowing that this is a practice that we can do to tune in and to bring energy to different parts of our physical body.

Let's invite the awareness now to expand out into the whole body.

To all of the muscles.

The bones.

To all the joints.

Tissues.

Ligaments.

A sense that we are really inhabiting this space of this amazing body.

That's a part,

An essential sacred part of who we are.

I'd like to invite you to do one more practice here with the Anamaya kosha.

That is to bring into your awareness one way that you are caring for your body.

Caring for your Anamaya kosha.

Let that way of caring just settle in a little deeper into your awareness.

Maybe you see some of the picture of what that looks like or the elements that are involved in this care.

Then extend some gratitude for your being for this way that you are caring for your body.

For this practice of support.

Knowing that your body really appreciates it and is thankful for your care.

Before we close our meditation on Anamaya kosha we'll spend just a few more breaths really inhabiting the physical.

Amazing,

Powerful part.

Dimension of yourself.

I encourage you to keep caring for your body and tuning in and paying attention.

So we'll have our body lead us back into our waking state by moving from the inside out.

Finding little movements maybe in the fingers.

Maybe in the toes or the head.

Let your body decide.

As you are ready you can open your eyes and enjoy the rest of this day.

A good mix of informative and nurturing, this makes a good practice, and is worth repeating. I will listen to the meditations on the other koshas as well.

This is the second time that I am taking Liziah's journey through the koshas. I recommend going in order through all five, one daily. Truly lovely.
