You're listening to the Motherhood Unstressed podcast and I'm your host Liz Carlisle.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this guided meditation today or tonight.
It's that active intention that you want to better your life,
Better your mental state,
Bring more peace and calm into your world.
And that's exactly what we're going to do today.
As we jump in,
Sink in,
Let's begin by focusing on our breath.
Take a deep breath in through your nose.
And as the air fills your lungs,
Hold for a moment before you release back out through your nose.
Repeat this process,
Deepening your breathing with every inhalation and that holdover moment.
And then when you can't hold it,
Release.
Do this two to three more times until you can feel within your body already a greater sense of calm and energy and aliveness.
Return now to a gentle rhythmic breath.
We are not forcing or pushing or counting.
You're just present.
You're just noticing.
And every breath allows your body to sink in deeper into a state of relaxation,
To allow any tight tendons to release,
Any tension that you're holding in your neck or shoulders to be alchemized out.
And you actively switch on every cell in your body towards health.
You can even say,
Every cell in my body is activated towards health.
Every cell in my body is activated towards health.
And let that truth sink in.
So much of our happiness is connected to the thoughts that we think.
And often we're running on autopilot.
So much so that we create these grooves,
These patterns in our lives that do not serve us.
So now is the time,
The perfect time to rewire that,
To create new patterns towards happiness and peace.
I have 10 mantras that I want you to repeat after I say them in your mind's eye,
Or you could say them out loud and really feel the truth of those statements.
Embody them and take them into your night or into your day.
And this is a great process to come back to daily.
And this is called Just For Today.
And it's from Dale Carnegie's book,
How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.
Number one,
Just for today,
I will be happy.
This assumes what Abraham Lincoln said is true,
That most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.
Happiness is from within.
It is not a matter of externals.
Number two,
Just for today,
I will try to adjust myself to what is and not try to adjust everything to my own desires.
I will take my family,
My business and my luck as they come and fit myself to them.
Number three,
Just for today,
I will take care of my body.
I will exercise it,
Care for it,
Nourish it,
Not abuse it or neglect it so that it will be a perfect machine for my bidding.
Just for today,
I will try to strengthen my mind.
I will learn something useful.
I will not be a mental loafer.
I will read something that requires effort,
Thought and concentration.
Just for today,
I will exercise my soul in three ways.
I will do somebody a little bit of a turn and not get found out.
I will do at least two things I don't want to do,
As William James suggests,
Just for exercise.
Just for today,
I will be agreeable.
I will look as well as I can,
Dress as becomingly as possible,
Talk low,
Act courteously,
Be liberal with praise,
Criticize not at all,
Nor find fault with anything and not try to regulate nor improve anyone.
Number seven,
Just for today,
I will try to live through this day only,
Not to tackle my whole life problem at once.
I can do things for 12 hours that would appall me if I had to keep them up for a lifetime.
Just for today,
I will have a program.
I will write down what I expect to do every hour.
I may not follow it exactly,
But I will have it.
It will eliminate two pests,
Hurrying and indecision.
Number nine,
Just for today,
I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax.
In this half hour,
Sometimes I will think of God so as to get a little more perspective into my life.
And number 10,
Just for today,
I will be unafraid,
Especially I will not be afraid to be happy,
To enjoy what is beautiful,
To love,
And to believe those I love,
Love me.
If we want to develop a mental attitude that will bring us peace and happiness,
Here is rule number one.
Think and act cheerfully and you will feel cheerful.
Take the next minute or two to let these mantras sink in so that you fully embody them and allow for yourself just today to feel good,
To be intentional and see how your day changes.
So so so Bring some movement back into your body now.
Take note of anything that came up for you that seemed important or any thoughts that came up in reaction to what you just heard that might be telling of where you are and where you want to go.
Thank you for doing this guided meditation.
Thank you for taking the time to improve your life so that your energy can continue to help and heal the rest of the world.
Until next week,
Namaste.
