The reason we ground is to establish the feeling of safety. We often think safety comes from outside of ourselves so we try to create safety through our actions. It follows then that the success of those actions is paramount, which can create feelings of stress, doubt, anxiousness or worry, to name a few. When you learn to ground, whatever is happening in the world and the world around you no longer matter because you know how to come back home to yourself.

Welcome to our grounding exercise.

Go ahead and get comfortable and arrange yourself in your seat.

Your feet can be on the floor or you can be cross-legged if that's more comfortable for you.

Your eyes can be open or they can be closed or they can be somewhere in between where you find a focus point and let your gaze go soft.

There's no way to do this,

No one way,

And we're certainly not going for perfect and we're not going to go for the right way.

We're going to go for what feels good to you,

What your body is a yes to.

So check in,

Check in with your body.

Do you need to shift a little bit,

Maybe move your booty a little in the chair,

Maybe move your hands or your arms just a touch to get maximum comfort.

Go ahead and do that now.

Do a quick scan and make any adjustments you need.

And now we're going to inhale and pull your shoulders all the way up like you're trying to make them touch your ears and then a big exhale and let those shoulders drop.

Nice and slow inhale with an exhale through your mouth and imagine all the energy that no longer serves you is being expelled.

Now when you inhale,

Notice do you inhale straight up like you're trying to snort something straight up your nose or do you inhale up and back into your sinuses or into the center of your head.

If you do it that second way,

It's a much fuller inhale and it allows and makes room for more expansion.

So go ahead and try it.

Inhale and notice the air coming in through your nose and back toward the center of your head.

Exhale and expel all the energy that's ready to be released through your mouth.

All right,

What we're going to do now is bring your awareness to the base of your spine and we're going to imagine a tree trunk growing out of the base of your spine and anchoring into the earth.

The roots are growing and expanding and they're snaking around and twirling and digging deeper and deeper as they reach for the core of the earth.

It can be any kind of tree like a maple or an oak,

Maybe it's a sequoia or a redwood or a birch,

Any tree like.

And imagine the core of the earth and what it looks like to you.

Allow the roots from your tree trunk to either wrap around the core or go right into the core.

This is you connecting with the core of this beautiful life-giving planet.

And as you do,

You're not only grounding your physical body,

You're grounding your energetic body as well.

If you have a hard time seeing the tree trunk,

Or that's okay,

No worries.

Just imagine what it would look like if you could see it in your mind's eye.

And allow the tree to root all the way into the earth's core or wrap all around the earth's core.

And as it does,

Maybe those roots of your trunk get even wider and the base of your tree gets wider and wider and it becomes more and more stable.

And that trunk from the root of your spine is maybe it's 10 feet wide or maybe it's 20 feet wide or even wider than that.

And imagine that trunk holding you and supporting you and connecting you.

One of the advantages of grounding this way is that you create an avenue for yourself to release energy down into the center of the earth.

The planet is well suited to absorb the energy you want to release and it's more than happy to do so.

So if you're feeling any tension or anxiety or stress or worry about anything right now in this moment or about anything from before you started this recording,

Simply allow it to go down your tree trunk and into the earth.

Let yourself be supported in this moment.

If you're overthinking anything that you've planned for yourself today or this week or this quarter or this year,

If you're stuck in the how you're going to get everything done or get this thing or those things done,

Or if you're feeling any self-imposed pressure or excessive analytical energy,

Just let it go.

Let it stream down the tree trunk into the earth.

Anything that doesn't serve you,

Allow yourself to be loved and carried right now.

As you let the energy go,

You might see color.

You can also let people go,

And if you do,

You might see faces.

Or you might just notice a heaviness come off your body.

Take a moment and check in with yourself.

What does it feel like to release energy and ground yourself in this way?

Ask yourself,

What does this grounded version of myself feel like?

And notice.

You don't have to have words or a description,

But you can.

Or you can just notice how it feels in your body.

Notice how you are different right now from when you arrived here just a little bit ago.

Feel into that difference and hang out there for a moment.

You can call upon this vibration,

This feeling that you're experiencing right now,

Anytime you'd like.

And what we're doing here,

Right this moment,

Is learning one way to access that feeling,

That vibration of peace,

Of calm,

Of groundedness.

The way you ground and the feelings you get will be different from mine.

So give yourself permission to own your unique style of grounding.

Whatever you're imagining right now and however this is working for you is perfect for you,

And that's all that matters.

As you begin to own this more and more,

As you begin to live from a more grounded place,

What's around you will begin to ground as well.

So the room you're in and the home you're in and the people around you.

And that's a gift,

That space that you're creating with your groundedness is a gift for them to ground themselves as well.

So not only does being grounded feel good for you because you're creating stability for yourself that you can go back and lean on at any time,

You're also helping the people that come in contact with you and that are around you.

And the more and more grounded you become when the wind blows,

The less likely it is that you'll blow over.

So if someone throws judgment or criticism at you or maybe expectation or their needs,

Or if someone tries to knock you over with their negativity,

The more grounded you are,

The more you practice getting back to this place,

The less likely it is that they'll knock you over,

The less likely it is that you are affected.

Sometimes you will be,

But you will be able to bounce back much quicker.

Now before we come out of this quiet place,

I invite you to check in one last time with this feeling,

This feeling of being grounded.

And I ask you to take energetic ownership of this tool that you just learned.

It's your tool.

Allow yourself to have it and to integrate it and own it.

It's very powerful and it's all yours.

Take a nice deep breath in and a soft,

Easy sigh out.

And when you're ready and in a very grounded way,

With a light smile on your face,

Slowly open your eyes and stretch.

Great work.
