River Of Stillness - Yoga Nidra For Creativity
by Lisa
This Yoga Nidra practice begins with a beautiful quote about the practice and it is aimed at stimulating creativity. Work with a wealth of techniques: Body scan to ground the body and fully arrive. Shitali breathwork to connect with the energy body. The technique of 'opposites' aimed at facilitating dis-identification. Use headphones/earphones for a better experience, avoid Bluetooth. This practice was recorded during a live session.

So I trust you've found your favorite position for the practice.
I'm sure that you'll have a blanket,
A pillow,
If that's in your practice.
And yeah,
Dimly lit room and peace and quiet if possible.
So I found this beautiful quote about Yoganidra where it says that Yoganidra is like bathing in a river of stillness.
Our job is to find this river and soak into it.
The quote is,
There is a river of stillness that runs inside each of us.
Our job is to find it and soak in those still waters.
So that's the full quote.
I find that Yoganidra allows us to do just that.
Just to rest and bathe in the still waters of our consciousness.
And tonight's practice is a practice to stimulate and wake up creativity.
Creativity not just in our job or whatever role we perform,
But also creativity in reinventing ourselves as we go through our various phases of our life and find new ways of keeping our interest and our attention alive.
Creativity can actually be applied to each and every aspect of our life.
The idea tonight is to move through creative blocks through the practice.
When we place a new intention,
When we set an intention,
It's like planting a new seed.
This also helps reorganize the neuromuscular system.
So it kind of rewires the brain.
And even though we may not be aware of it,
It's a powerful step in the process of healing.
That's why the intention is so important in yoga practice and Yoganidra,
In all kinds of spiritual practices,
As it gives meaning to what we're doing.
And the intention tonight is being expressive is my birthright.
So I invite you to close your eyes if that works for you.
Or if you prefer to have a soft gaze,
If that feels better for you,
That's also acceptable.
And allow your mind to turn inwards.
Let go of all thoughts,
Worries,
And tension.
And give yourself fully to a higher power.
Let go.
Let go.
See if you can relax and trust.
And breathe in fully and exhale with a deep sigh.
Do that again.
Breathe in fully.
Pause at the top and exhale with a deep sigh.
Let go even more.
And as you do that,
Feel a deep sense of contentment and peace in your heart.
And now bring the intention that we have for the practice into your awareness.
Being expressive is my birthright.
I'll invite you now to join my voice as we chant the sound of Aum.
If you don't feel comfortable with chanting,
Simply allow yourself to receive the vibrations of the sacred chant as they wash through your body.
If you are joining,
Allow the sound of Aum to come deep within the belly on the exhalation.
So we take a deep breath in.
Aum.
And come into silence.
Dissolving into silence.
Merge into that silent space.
And now allow yourself to become very heavy.
Feeling the weight of your spine dropping fully into the surface beneath you.
Feeling the back of the heels sticking into the surface you're laying on.
The calves of the thighs.
The glutes.
Feel the low back,
Middle back and upper back resting onto the earth beneath you.
On the back of the head.
The neck.
The top of the head.
Feel the scalp resting on the skull.
So bring your whole physical body into your awareness.
From the top of the head to the tips of the toes.
Simply noticing the stillness.
Feel yourself descending down into the stillness beneath the mind.
Totally absorbed.
Fully engaged.
Allow the commentary of the mind to dissolve into physical sensation.
As we enter into the next phase of Yoga Nidra,
Remain as motionless as possible.
Resolve to remain awake and allow your body to respond to my words energetically.
Decide that any disturbances,
Internal or external,
Will only draw you deeper within the practice of Yoga Nidra.
And now shift from thinking and doing to feeling and being.
Drop into the deepest state of tranquility,
Stillness and peace in the third eye.
From this very relaxed and unified state,
Follow my guidance as we begin the Shitali breath.
Inhale normally through the nostrils and exhale through softly pursed lips as if you were blowing out,
Exhaling out of a very small straw.
Inhale through the nose and exhale through softly pursed lips until there is no more air in the lungs.
Continue with this breath until I ask you to stop.
Stay focused and feel the energy follow your attention.
Remain totally absorbed in the subtle vibration of sound and energy.
Moving in complete synchronicity.
Breathing through the nostrils and exhaling through softly pursed lips until there is no more air in the lungs.
Visualize letting something go with each exhalation.
Experience a deep stillness extending everywhere as you do this.
Breathe normally now.
Give yourself permission to enter the deepest level of relaxation right now.
Let go.
Let go completely.
Experience a silence extending everywhere.
Experience an effortless state of being.
Just laying here practicing Yoga Nidra.
Practicing being still.
Practicing being.
We'll move our attention through different parts of the body now.
As I name each body part bring your total attention to this part accompanied by a feeling of heaviness sinking like a stone in water.
Both feet heavy like stones,
Calves and knees heavy sinking deeper,
Thighs and hips very heavy like lead,
Abdomen,
Chest and back.
Gravity pulling you down deeper,
Shoulders,
Arms and palms very very heavy.
Feel your entire head heavy like a stone.
Give your body completely and totally to the omnipresent field of gravity.
Experience your whole body heavy like a rock.
Feel your whole being,
Your whole body sinking deeper and deeper.
Totally let go into the pool of gravity,
Sinking heavy like a stone,
Sinking deeper into stillness and silent awareness.
Now shift your attention and as I name the body part let all the heaviness drain away.
Let your body be buoyant and light like a fluffy cloud.
Both feet limp and light,
Calves and knees empty and free,
Thighs and hips hollow,
Weightless,
Abdomen,
Chest and back light and empty,
Arms and palms floating,
Head hollow,
Empty.
Feel your whole body empty,
Light and hollow.
Sense the emptiness of your body and the silence of your mind.
Enter the power and protection of your energy body.
Embrace its feathery lightness.
Feel completely safe and secure.
Feel yourself getting lighter and lighter until you begin to float in the air.
Release your energy body from your physical body.
Experience the freedom of this new dimension.
Released and freed from identification with your body and mind,
Free of all inhibitions and boundaries of your body and mind,
Past and future.
Observe your body completely at peace,
Resting in stillness.
Allow yourself to receive the following images and experiences.
Judge nothing.
Remain unconditionally open and present to all that passes in the field of awareness.
Dark night,
Crescent moon,
A star in the sky,
Sunrise on a desert,
The flame of a candle,
Phoenix arising out of its own ashes and now be still,
Still in that black space behind the forehead and observe what passes unattached to all that passes.
If nothing appears,
Just be aware of that.
Settle into the silent source of your being.
Let go in the experience so totally that you become the experience.
Feel this energy as it floods your entire nervous system,
Bathing every cell in the luminous healing light of divine presence.
Bring your intention into your awareness.
Being expressive is my birthright.
Being expressive is my birthright.
Being expressive is my birthright.
Allow your entire self to respond spontaneously and effortlessly to what I say.
I live in a perpetual creative response to what is present.
My source is stillness.
I am infinite creative potential and now establish yourself firmly in faith and trust to receive the grace,
Protection and guidance of the higher self within you.
The more often you go to your source,
The easier it will be to return there and the longer you can stay there.
At this moment,
Feel the presence of your own guides surrounding you and blessing you.
You have prepared the base from where you can carry out interactions with life and interpersonal relations with the integrative power of love and the source within you.
If you have an area that you feel needs a healing,
Physical,
Mental or emotional or all three,
Allow the light of your being to flow into that area now and now start to become aware of the rising and falling of your breath.
Deepen the inhalations and lengthen the exhalations,
Emptying your lungs completely.
If you're coming out of the practice,
You may start to move your fingers,
Wiggle your fingers and your toes very slowly,
Waking up the body,
Perhaps bending the knees into the chest and rolling onto one side and taking a moment there in fetal position.
As you're ready,
Come into a seated position with your eyes closed if possible,
Just taking a moment here to notice the peace that we've created through the practice,
Bringing the hands in front of the heart.
In Namaskar Mudra,
Bow the head to the heart,
Jai Bhagwan,
May the spirit be victorious.
This concludes our yoga nidra practice.
Namaste
