The Mountain Meditation.
To begin this meditation,
You can be seated in a chair or on the floor.
It's important to have your spine erect and straight.
Take a moment to settle in to where you're seated,
Bringing your awareness to your breath.
Gently inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.
As you take an inhale breath,
Visualize the breath centering in your body,
Accumulating into an egg shape.
And as you exhale,
Imagine like a dinosaur laying that egg into the center of the earth.
Inhale into the egg.
Exhale,
Release the egg into the center of the earth.
These egg laying breaths help to ground you,
Connect you to the earth and present time.
In many Taoist alchemical practices,
One's inner being is visualized as a lush mountains landscape populated by deities,
Often called kulmun mountain.
We use this visualization to understand the inner workings of the mind,
The emotions and the spirit.
This meditation helps to connect you to all of your spiritual nature and brighten the light that you are.
We begin the meditation by visualizing your body as the mythical kulmun mountain.
The peak of your mountain reaching up beyond your body into the heavens above and the base planted deep into the earth below your feet.
You can feel and experience the mountains beauty and power.
The mist swirling around you,
The rivers and streams that flow.
Feel into that power,
The steadfastness of the mountain.
Now bring your awareness to the space over the top of your head,
This highest point on the mountain peak and visualize a single star shining just a few inches above that.
The space is correlated with our eighth chakra.
And feel the light of the star pouring down on you in a radiant shower of liquid gold light.
This is the light of the Shen spirit,
The yang light of heaven and our conscious awareness.
This light connects us to our divine nature and our higher self.
Feel that golden light of the Shen drift down through your body.
It comes to rest in the space at the center of your heart,
Fourth chakra.
Breathe into that heart space and visualize the Shen spirit taking on form and color.
It drifts and changes like the mists and clouds on the mountainside.
As this yang light of awareness grows moister with more yin,
We enter the realm of the Hun,
The spirit of vision and imagination.
Take a few moments to breathe and connect in that heart space with the Hun.
Now follow the light as it drifts downward,
Coming to rest in the solar plexus,
That space right around the belly button near your third chakra.
As you breathe into this area of the body,
Feel the light gathering potency and weight as it descends toward the earth.
This light takes root in your belly like a seed taking root in the fertile valley at the mountain's edge.
This is the realm of the Yi,
The spirit of embodied action and intention.
Breathing into this area,
We can feel the potential for growth,
Power and movement.
As your awareness drops deeper,
It dips below the horizon line down into the dark caves below the mountain,
Into the labyrinth of the viscera of the pelvic basin,
Our second chakra.
Bring your awareness to a point about three finger breaths below the belly button and take a moment to feel the powerful energies that reside here.
This is the realm of the Po,
The yin spirit of the animal body,
The breath and the autonomic nervous system.
As you breathe into this space with that golden light of the Shen,
Feel the nervous system relax and balance.
Now we descend deeper as our awareness follows the labyrinths of the viscera deep below the mountain to the darkest cave,
To a point at the base of the spine,
Our first chakra.
Feel the energies that pulsate here,
Ebbing and flowing as the tides of the spinal fluids expand and contract.
You can feel the darkness envelop you as the yang light of consciousness,
That golden light of the Shen is swallowed in the dark ocean of the yin fluids of life.
This is the realm of the Zhur,
The spirit of the collective unconscious,
The spirit of archetypes,
Cell memories,
Genetic codes,
Primal symbols,
And the luminous threads of fate that are the yin reflection of the Tao.
In this darkest cavern below the mountain at the base of the spine,
We come to the center of the alchemical mystery,
The dark womb of the mysterious feminine.
Now we breathe,
Wait,
And do nothing.
Surrender to her power.
As you breathe into the deepest,
Most hidden point of the body,
You'll gradually feel a tingling begin at the base of the spinal column.
This tingling is the fire of the yin,
The light that rises from down below,
The fiery spring of the life force,
The river of liquid light that gushes up from the heart of darkness.
Breathe this underworld fire upwards.
It moves up through the pelvis,
The area of the Po,
The second chakra,
Continuing up to the solar plexus,
The third chakra,
The Yi.
When it reaches the heart,
Feel the luminous yin fire of the Zhur spirit mingle with the radiant yang light of the Shen.
As you breathe into the heart,
Feel the light pour in from above and below as that yang golden light of the Shen continues to descend to the heart space and the warmth of the yin fire of the Zhur continues to move up from the dark caverns below.
As the upper and lower lights mingle,
You feel subtle streams of pleasure radiate from the heart and fill your entire body.
This is compassion and love that pours through you as you continue to breathe the two lights into your heart.
You are now experiencing the sacred union,
The alchemical marriage of yin and yang.
Let the dance of this union continue as you open your eyes and let the light of the five spirits shine from your heart outward to the world.
You are now experiencing the sacred union of yin and yang.
