Welcome to this audio meditation dealing with overwhelm.

When we feel overwhelmed,

We feel so many things at the same time,

That we get flustered and have difficulty comprehending what is happening to us.

Sometimes we feel so much,

That it feels like we don't feel anything at all,

As if we are numb.

This is perfectly normal,

Let me explain what happened.

Something triggered your nervous system and put you into fight or flight mode.

Older parts of your brain took over to help you survive a perceived threat,

And in the process it bypassed your cognitive mind and stopped it from fully functioning.

This is why you feel a loss of control.

No need to worry,

It is what the body-mind system naturally does,

But it will also naturally recover.

The intention of this meditation is to help you do just that.

It will help you heal and find your way back to a place where you feel more at ease and more in charge again.

You can begin by finding a comfortable position to sit or lay in for a while.

If you are sitting in a chair,

Put both your feet firmly on the ground.

If you are laying down,

Make sure your head,

Neck and lower back are supported.

Build a cozy and safe meditation nest for yourself.

Let's take a moment to settle in.

You are recovering from something that triggered you.

All you need is a moment to recoup and heal.

You will get through this.

You are safe.

You might feel restless,

Uneasy or anxious.

You might feel flustered,

Frustrated or without hope.

Or perhaps you feel numb and checked out.

Remember,

It is all a natural part of feeling overwhelmed.

You will soon feel better and more like yourself again.

Trust that the body-mind system knows what to do to heal itself.

For now,

Give yourself full permission to not feel good.

No need to do anything.

It is not your fault.

No need to understand,

Explain,

Solve or fix it.

Trust that these feelings will pass on their own.

It is only a matter of time.

Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

With the in-breath you feel your belly expand and with the out-breath you feel it contract.

Let this meditation be a safe space for you to just be.

With no demands on yourself,

No judgment,

No responsibilities.

You just need time to recover from all these wild intense emotions running through your body.

Emotions are the life force in action.

They can feel intense,

Uncontrollable and even unmanageable.

It is normal.

It is a natural part of what feeling alive feels like.

Know that you are safe.

Don't fight,

But observe,

Accept and surrender.

The storm will pass.

All you have to do is breathe through it.

With the in-breath you intentionally surrender a little bit more into relaxation.

Trust that your body-mind system instinctively knows how to recover and heal itself.

All you have to do is give it time to do so.

Allow this mystery of life to unfold.

With every breath invite loving awareness into your body.

Trust that it will find its way to the place that needs it.

When you identify any particular emotions running through your body,

Perhaps you feel anger,

Fear,

Sadness,

Shame,

Guilt or something else.

Allow yourself some time to identify the different emotions running through your body.

See what emotion word comes to mind.

You don't have to understand,

Explain or analyze.

Just observe and identify.

Imagine that the emotions you have identified are all bundled in a ball.

Where in your body does this ball reside?

Can you locate it?

What does the ball look like?

How big is it?

Is it heavy or light?

Does it have a color or texture?

Explore this ball of emotions bundled in your body.

Now imagine you gently grab this ball with both your hands.

Take it from the part of your body where it's located.

And place it right in front of you.

Right in front of your body.

As if you are pulling it out of your body and holding it in front of you to explore.

Now imagine the ball you are holding,

Suddenly turned into a little bird you just removed from its cage.

In curiosity and in wonder,

You slowly and gently open your hands and allow it to be free.

Set it free.

Similar to how you would gently throw a bird up in the air,

Allowing it to spread its wings and fly away.

Set your emotions free.

Set yourself free.

With every out breath,

You let go of a little bit of tension.

And with every in breath,

You welcome a little bit of ease.

Trust that you will soon find yourself again.

We will now slowly transition out of this meditation and back into a more active state of consciousness.

When it feels good to you,

Gently become aware of your environment.

Notice the air around you,

The sounds you hear,

The smells you can detect.

Perhaps gently move certain parts of your body.

Stretch yourself a bit.

Wiggle your fingers and toes a little.

Notice how you are still here.

You made it through the worst part.

Trust that this process of recovering into relaxation will continue without you putting effort into it.

It will naturally and instinctively go on after this meditation.

As soon as you're ready,

Gently come out of this meditation while you remember your presence within.
