Find a comfortable place.
Sitting is preferred on this exercise.
This power-up breathing will enhance the energy circulation in your body.
It's a practice called fanning the fire and we're going to use it and then do some breath holds to put the respiratory system under a little bit of stress,
Like weightlifting,
To strengthen our energy system.
This exercise is wonderful for the immune system,
The respiratory system,
And to increase our energy and vitality.
Let's begin.
Take both hands and place them over your abdomen.
When you exhale,
We're gonna be breathing out through the mouth and the abdomen goes back towards the spine.
Inhale through the nose.
The exhale is strong and powerful,
Abdomen going back towards the spine.
The inhale happens all by itself.
Try it for a few times.
Now resume normal breathing.
Inhale and exhale through the nose.
By combining fast fire breathing and slow deep breathing,
We balance the yin and the yang energies of the body.
The fast energy,
Called fanning the fire,
Stimulates the yang energy,
The energy of activity and action.
The slow deep breathing in and out through the nose calms the mind and cultivates yin energy,
The energy of inner peace.
By combining the two,
Yin and yang,
We power up the energy system.
You strengthen the polarity of both yin and yang,
The positive and negative and thereby increasing the chi or the life force energy.
Let's do it again.
And now slow deep breathing in and out through the nose.
Feel the difference between the fast breathing and the slow breathing.
See if you can sense and feel a light buzzing and tingling in your body.
The sense and feeling of energy movement.
Slow deep breathing in and out through the nose.
We are stretching the polarities and thereby increasing energy.
Let's do it again.
Abdomen goes back towards the spine on that exhale.
Exhale all the way out.
And slow deep breathing in and out through the nose.
And now as you go into that slow deep breathing,
Just let your mind be calm and relaxed.
The mind sinking into the present moment,
Down in and through the space of your body.
Noticing and feeling the life force energy coursing through the energy pathways.
You might feel the hands buzzing and tingling.
You might sense a deep relaxation in the mind and the body.
You might feel some energy and circulation moving down the legs to the feet.
Breathe into it.
And you can continue breathing slow and deep for as long as you like.
When you're ready,
You can slowly open your eyes and take that newfound power into the rest of your day.
