Breathing for equanimity,

Take a moment to find a comfortable place.

Lie down,

Sit down.

Take the next few minutes for you to invest in yourself and find that calm inner peace within.

The breath is the gateway to the mind.

When we breathe deep,

The mind relaxes.

In all traditions,

Breath has been used as a way to enter into deeper levels of consciousness.

Here,

Let's focus on the breath.

Take a moment just to notice your breath.

Where do you feel it?

Can you feel it coming in through the nose,

Moving through the chest,

Expanding into the ribs,

And inflating into the lower abdomen?

When you exhale,

Feel the breath leaving the body,

Exiting the thoracic cavity,

Moving up through the throat and out through the nose.

As you pay attention to the breath,

The breath changes for what we pay attention to brings more energy.

Awareness is the key to unlocking the mind.

Then just start to change the breath by breathing a little deeper.

Let the breath be silky smooth,

Slow inhale,

And a slow exhale.

The mind reflects the breath.

When you breathe slower,

The mind slows down.

When the mind slows down,

We enter into the present moment.

Now try this,

Breathe in,

And at the top of the inhale,

Pause or suspend the breath.

Exhale,

And at the bottom of the exhale,

Pause and suspend the breath.

When the breath goes into stillness at the top of the inhale,

And the bottom of the exhale,

Let your mind be still as well.

Inhale,

Pause,

Exhale,

And pause.

Let the breath be natural.

Find that comfortable rhythm for you.

This breathing and pause develops equanimity,

Inner balance,

Harmony within your mind and body.

Continue letting the breath be slow,

Deep,

Relaxed,

And smooth.

Find that stillness in the breath,

And let that stillness reflect in your mind.

And in that stillness of the mind,

We come face to face with who we truly are,

Pure awareness.

Inhale,

Soft and deep,

Pause,

Exhale,

And exhale,

And exhale,

Exhale,

Relaxed,

Calm,

And pause.

It's said when the mind is still,

The whole universe surrenders.

It opens up.

Find that stillness in the mind,

And feel your deep connection to all that is.

Notice if you feel any sensations in your body as you breathe deeply.

This breathing enhances the flow of energy and circulation in body and mind.

Continue that deep breathing,

Finding the stillness in the breath,

And being aware and observant of the stillness of the mind.

And as you continue this breathing,

Harmony and equanimity are established.

You feel balanced and centered,

Ready to move into your day with power and a sense of calm equanimity in mind and body.

Continue breathing deep and slow.

And when you're ready,

You can slowly open your eyes,

Wiggle your fingers and toes,

And take this feeling of inner harmony,

Balance and equanimity into the rest of your day.

This is a lovely guidance for mindful breathing. I haven’t heard anything exactly like it before. It encourages full use of the breath while also enabling mental stillness without striving. Thank you for this short but rewarding practice for calm and connection. Donna
