When we were created,

We were given five senses.

Each of these senses experienced creation in a unique way.

Our senses were designed to inspire gratitude for our creator at a foundational level.

Gratitude is the bridge between trauma and healing.

It takes the part of our brain that is hardwired to look out for danger and lights up a path to a positive thinking pattern.

In a self-centered world,

Gratitude helps us to look outside of ourselves,

Easing some of the strain of depression and anxiety.

By paying attention to our senses and being grateful for them in every way,

We set ourselves up to live in a constant state of gratitude.

Our senses are powerful,

And as we become more in tune with them,

The more exciting and present life becomes.

We're oftentimes so afraid to feel,

But this will not keep our emotions from coming.

Stifling them only keeps them locked away,

Sure to resurface at some point.

If we feel through our negative,

Sad,

Hard emotions,

That does not mean we will never feel them again,

But we will develop emotional maturity.

One foundational way to work through things in life is through writing your story,

Even if it's just fragments at a time.

You are living,

Breathing history.

When deep emotions rise,

Taking the time to write everything you are feeling in detail is powerful and profoundly freeing.

Scanning your body for physiological responses or emotions at surface and addressing them can bring clarity to your experience.

It is an act of self-compassion to honor your experiences,

Frustrations,

Trauma,

Joy,

And everything in between.

One of the best ways to process emotions through writing is by using a combination of sensory awareness and short poetic phrases.

It does not have to rhyme in any way or follow any sort of structure,

But the arrangement of words,

The rich adjectives,

They all play a part in exemplifying the reality of your experience on paper.

There is also the opportunity to take traumatic or unpleasant experiences and derive from them a theme of beauty.

The freshest memories equal the most realistically portrayed poems and feelings,

But there is also merit to writing after you have internally processed as well.

There are two times to process emotions through writing,

Either in the midst of whatever intense emotion you are feeling or after when the feelings have simmered a bit.

Both are equally helpful.

Each stanza comes alive as we merge words with senses.

Words connected with memories and senses are shockingly powerful.

Physically writing down your feelings engages several senses at once subconsciously.

Seeing the words written on a page and touching a pen to the paper gives your feelings the honor they deserve.

To draw them out from the far reaches of your mind and give them a home on a page is a healing gift you can give yourself.

Sometimes we are in the mindset where we need to praise and other times we are in a place of crying out,

Right from the heart no matter how it looks.

Your feelings and emotions are so valid.

Keeping them bottled up tells our bodies that they are not worthy of being expressed.

This can lead to shame for no reason.

It also has physiological effects on our bodies.

Somatic healing and movement are what we use to draw out those stagnant emotions,

But feeling deeply in an authentic way can save us a step.

Pinpointing the root of our trauma is often the exact place we need to start.

It can be a seemingly dreaded task to dig up all of our old wounds.

However,

When we deal with them,

They are resolved once and for all.

Writing is one of the most therapeutic things we can do and helps to release pent up emotions and thoughts.

Moving forward and establishing good habits as they pertain to emotions and processing is the goal.

If we process emotions as they come,

There is a lot less backtracking.

Our senses are powerful and as we become more in tune with them,

The more exciting and present life becomes.

We are often times so afraid to feel and with good reason.

Being afraid to feel will not keep our emotions from coming.

Stifling them only keeps them locked away,

Sure to resurface at some point.

If we feel through our negative and hard emotions,

This does not mean we will never feel them again,

But we will develop emotional maturity and be able to handle far more than we ever thought possible.

If you are hesitant or worried that someone may come across your writing,

Shifting your writing style to a shorthand,

Poetic way of releasing your thoughts and emotions is the perfect solution.

This preserves some of your privacy,

But you are still getting issues off of your heart.

There is such a release when we work through and process emotions and events in more than one way.

Then when you get to the place where you are able to share a piece of your story willingly with at least one person you trust,

You allow them to be a witness to your heart and to come alongside you.

Your light then illuminates the way for the next person to write and share their own story.

Your testimony is a part of your legacy.

Telling your story can help spark a desire for someone else to delve into their own healing journey.

The power of story and relating to one another bridges gaps and facilitates community.

Even if one person is impacted by your testimony,

It has a ripple effect.

Sharing our stories dissolves shame,

Uplifts,

And empowers others that overcoming is possible.

Resilience is contagious.

When we encourage others to share their stories,

Healing can begin.

Healing is not only important for the current generation,

But it also resolves issues and prevents them from spilling into the next generations to come.

I truly believe that sharing our stories will be the single greatest revolution in healing our nation.

I encourage you to write your testimony from birth up to the present.

Do not leave anything out,

Even if it seems too difficult to share.

This should be done when you feel comfortable,

But also keep in mind that life is real and raw and just sharing your struggles since Sorrows ministers to others.

Get reacquainted with your story.

Developing and organizing your story helps you see patterns clearly and establish your voice.

Writing,

Speaking,

And sharing your story is a holistic rounding out of the healing process.

Developing a life philosophy helps to organize your worldview and provide clarity on how to move forward in your decision making.

Your philosophy can be as simple or complex as you would like.

The goal is to come up with something that you truly believe and that embodies how you view and engage with the world.

What form of beauty are you called to bring to earth?

The new year is not the only time to reevaluate and set new intentions and goals for yourself.

Each and every moment of the year has the potential to be all about revolution of thought patterns,

Decisions,

And transforming the old into something brand new and full of beauty.

There is vision that comes through a transformed heart and mind and a foundational worldview shift is key to following through on your goals.

So keep on creating because the world needs your voice.

An amazing byte sized talk. Very useful information that’ll help me delve deeper into writing meditation practice. Writing is my strong suit and I’ve been looking for ways to evolve it to become more and more a source of meditation than just releasing emotions. Thanks! I definitely will come back to it.
