In this 7-minute practice, Laurie guides you to take in the good around you and shift your mind to the positive. Meditation quiets the voice in the head and shifts how you experience the moments in your day. It’s about detaching from the internal chatter and observing what’s happening in your mind and body with a wider, kinder perspective.

Let's do a practice to cultivate the ability to take in and savor the good.

You can do this sitting,

Standing,

Even waiting in line to get your lunch.

Let's begin.

Take a moment to arrive,

Sitting or standing in a way that is alert and relaxed.

You can close your eyes,

Gently soften your gaze,

Or leave them open.

You're taking a pause in your day,

So take a few deep breaths right here.

Feel the sensations of your body breathing.

Now scan your day.

Bring attention to what is good right now in your day.

Where there has been harmony,

Beauty,

Creativity,

Productivity,

Connection with others,

Let yourself be open to seeing with fresh eyes.

As you scan your day for moments that are good,

Pick one thing from what you generated and bring that to mind.

It might be an event that happened earlier,

Or something that you're experiencing right now,

Or an action you took,

Or an action that someone else did.

And now,

Take in the good.

Bringing that moment fully alive.

Make it bigger with all of your senses.

That's it.

Let your awareness of it grow,

Making it bigger and bigger.

Let it sink in and integrate with your bones,

The beat of your heart,

The rise and fall of your chest as you breathe,

Installing the positive experience.

You can also apply this practice to the roles you hold at work.

What is something specific that is working well?

What is your particular contribution to it?

Where are you serving?

Bring to mind a central commitment.

Supporting a business venture,

Launching a project,

Raising a child.

Ask yourself,

What is going well in this role?

How am I contributing to it?

To install that sense of appreciation and let it take hold,

Spend at least 15 seconds thinking about your contribution.

Notice how the practice of taking in and savoring the good feels in your body.

Emotions are physiological sensations,

And we can generate positive emotions by taking in and savoring the good.

Close by putting your hand on your chest,

Feeling the soothing weight of your own hand.

Allow awareness to arise for all that you are doing and all the ways that you are serving in your many roles.

Allow that awareness to fill your mind,

Your body,

And your heart.

Connect to this experience by allowing gratitude to arise.

You can deepen joy by adding appreciation to any moment.

Starting with appreciation is a key to happiness.

Set an intention to stop,

Pause,

And take in the good for the rest of the day and the rest of the week.

You can cultivate a positive mind and generate more balance with intention and practice.

Thank you for being here,

And may you be well.

Very nice, I love that’s it’s a practice that’s accessible while standing. I listened while preparing for bed and would like to make it a habit :)

So encouraging as a mother to stop and think of all the good and beauty in my children and in myself. I found myself really feeling like I am doing a good job which is very rare and even becoming emotional about that realization that was so needed. Thank you for this.

Man, I really needed the reminder to look for the good in life. Thank you, Laurie for that! I’m going to start writing down the good things I see around me. A simple thing that stood out to me yesterday when I was driving home from work, someone had made a sign on an overpass that said “have courage“. A simple thing, but it made me happy to see that there are people out there concerned for others and thinking about each other.
