Hi,

I'm Lori and welcome to this guided meditation to help you cope with and relieve the physical pain in your body.

Physical pain has several causes.

It can be caused by an emotional upset that has blocked your flow of energy,

Resulting in bunched up neurons that cause inflammation that create chronic pain in one or more areas of your body.

It can be caused by a physical event such as a fall or a car accident that's had a physical impact on your body,

Which is now trying to heal itself.

It could also be caused from disease or degeneration such as arthritis,

Diabetes or fibromyalgia,

Just to name a few.

Physical pain has so many causes.

However,

Regardless of the cause,

The pain response in your brain is the same.

We're going to help you to rewire your brain so that it stops dwelling on the pain,

It stops practicing living with the pain.

When you accept and live with pain,

Your brain gets conditioned to,

That's just the way it is,

And it exacerbates the pain cycle.

You have pain,

You dwell on the pain,

You practice coping with the pain,

You work through the pain,

It becomes a chronic pain response state.

So you dwell on the pain again,

You practice coping with the pain again.

It's a cycle that doesn't end.

We're going to start the work needed to help you break the cycle and rewire your brain.

This meditation is not meant to be a substitute for any prescription pain medication you're currently on.

It is meant as a complementary therapy technique to assist you along your healing journey.

So let's start by getting you settled into a quiet room where you will not be disturbed.

When you are comfortable and settled,

Close your eyes and just breathe naturally,

Just paying attention to your breath.

Just breathe in and out without any judgment,

Without any expectation.

Breathe naturally,

Don't change anything.

Just observe your body as you naturally inhale and exhale.

What are you noticing?

What sensations are you starting to experience and notice?

Whatever you're noticing and whatever the sensations are you're experiencing,

Become the observer.

Don't analyze it or try to change anything.

Just be present and observe and experience your breathing.

On your next exhale,

I want you to visualize your body completely unlocking any physical tension or stress,

Allowing it to release from your body as you relax deeper and deeper with every exhale.

Continue to do this for another four full breaths,

Completely unlocking any physical tension or stress as you exhale.

We're going to relax your body starting at your toes,

So turn your attention to your feet and on your next exhale,

Relax your toes and your feet,

Your heels,

Your soles and your ankles.

As you exhale,

Just release and relax.

Now let's move up your legs.

Take a moment to stretch out your legs,

Nice big long stretch,

Tense them up and then release and relax them.

Now relax and release any tightness or tension that you're feeling in your calves or your shins.

Relax your thighs and your hamstrings,

Allowing the weight of your lower limbs to just melt into the chair or the bed you're on.

Every exhale,

Feel a relaxation in your body,

Deepen and deepen.

Move your attention up to your lower back.

Chronic pain is very common in this area.

Release,

Relax and unlock any tightness or tension or discomfort in your lower back.

As you exhale,

Just release and relax.

If you would like to wiggle and adjust for optimum comfort,

You do so as you need to.

Now move up to your middle back,

Relaxing,

Releasing and freeing any tense muscles,

Tendons or ligaments.

Allow your ribs to be free flowing and your lungs to expand with ease.

Now turn your attention to your upper back.

Gently press your shoulder blade points together as best you can,

Then release them.

As you release,

Stretch them out,

Way out,

Opening it up,

Expanding the space between your shoulder blades,

Relaxing and releasing any tension or tightness.

Now gently lengthen your entire spine.

You may help to arch your back or raise your head,

Whatever works that feels that you're lengthening and elongating your spine,

Then relax it.

Feel the stress and tension starting to melt down your spine.

Feel the sensation of relaxation starting to wash over your entire body with every exhale.

Now drop your shoulders,

Releasing any tension or tightness as you exhale.

Imagine the tension,

Stress and tightness releasing like liquid,

Slowly running over your rotator cuff,

Down your biceps and triceps,

Past your elbow,

Down your forearm,

Past your wrists,

Through your hands and right out your fingertips.

Take another couple of slow breaths and continue to imagine the stress and tension unlocking and melting down your arms and right out your fingertips.

Now I want you to relax your neck and the back of your head,

Uncrinkle your forehead,

Can scrunch it up if you like,

Scrunch your whole face up if you like,

And then relax.

Soften the muscles around your eyes and your cheeks.

You can relax your jaw by wiggling it left and right to release any tension held within it.

Just feel the relaxation in your face just starting to melt away and down.

Now take a deep breath and release any tension or stress you're feeling in your abdomen area or your stomach area.

As you inhale,

Feel the expansion and the oxygen flowing through your body.

With every exhale,

Feel the stress starting to leave your body.

Notice that your nervous system is also starting to calm itself down.

Turn your attention to your chest,

Breathe into your chest area,

Relaxing and releasing any stress or emotional upset you're feeling at this moment.

Breathe into your heart center.

As you're focusing on your chest,

Try to breathe through your heart so you're imagining your air flowing through your nostrils,

Down through your heart,

And into your lungs.

As you breathe through your heart center,

With every exhale,

I want you to consciously and with purpose release the negative emotions that you're storing there.

Some emotions you might have are worry or fear,

Maybe anger or frustration,

Maybe resentment,

Some grief or sorrow or sadness,

Judgment or hurt.

Just take a couple of deep breaths,

Breathing through your heart center,

Releasing any emotional negative emotions that you're feeling.

We're going to reset all this today,

So try and release as much as you can.

You'd like to pause the meditation at this time and just deep breathe into it.

That's totally okay.

I want you to observe your body,

Mind,

And spirit as you breathe naturally.

What sensations are you noticing?

Do you feel relaxed?

Do you feel safe here?

Is there a growing sense of calm within you?

Have you noticed you've been able to release any of the emotional upset or any of the pain has lessened?

Just breathe and observe.

Let's turn our attention to the area of your body with the most physical pain at this given moment.

Just as you breathe through your heart,

I'd like you to try and breathe into this location of pain.

Just focus now,

Taking a breath,

Breathing in,

Pushing the breath into the area of your pain before you exhale.

Continue to breathe into this area and with every exhale,

Consciously release and relax this area.

Are you able to be the observer of this pain,

Distancing yourself from the pain and just observing it?

What does it feel like?

Can you give it a number out of 10?

10 being excruciatingly painful and zero being no pain at all.

What's your pain number at this point in time?

How is this pain affecting other parts of your body?

When you think of this pain and focus on it,

Does it have a color?

Is there an image in your head that you associated with this pain?

Keep breathing into your pain,

Keep observing your pain,

Keep being the observer.

Notice that you are not your pain,

You are separate from your pain.

Notice the pain is something outside of who you are.

It is an experience of sensations that you are aware of at this point in time,

But you are completely a separate being from the pain experience you are currently having.

Now as you breathe naturally,

I want you to imagine your life without any pain.

Imagine what it would look like.

Would you be more mobile?

Would you be able to engage more with family and friends?

Would you be able to do more activities in life that bring you joy?

Would you be able to pick things up off the floor without any pain experience?

Would you have more vitality and energy without the pain?

Imagine what life would look like without this constant physical pain,

Without always having that at the forefront of everything you do.

What would your life look like?

Now I'd like you to experience in your mind what living a pain free existence would feel like to you emotionally.

If you had no pain and you could do all the things that you wanted to do,

Would you have more joy as you engaged in activities with your friends and family?

Feel that joy within.

Would you feel empowered with a renewed sense of purpose?

How would that feel,

Be happy and confident and strong?

Just be in those emotions right now,

In those feelings.

Would you be happier because the pain is gone?

Would you feel more peaceful inside?

Observe your body without pain.

Is there less stress and tension?

Is there a feeling of relief and ease as you move through life?

What is your outlook,

Your feelings,

Living a life pain free?

You're joyful and happy.

Your life flows with ease.

You're able to do all the things that you wanted to do.

You're able to engage in activities with friends and family,

Participate wholly and fully.

I want you to stay in these happy feelings,

Living in a pain free existence.

We're going to work through some positive affirmations to help you rewire your brain.

So continue to breathe naturally and repeat after me.

I am healing myself more and more every day.

I am healing myself more and more every day.

I am healing myself more and more every day.

I release the pain from my body,

Mind,

And spirit.

I am part of the population that is so many people suffering from chronic pain are a part of. Little helps to lower the severity. I have found this meditation to be one of the few that help me tolerate the pain. I want to follow some of Lauries’ other meditations to see if they can help.
