The Yoga Sutras teachings have so much wisdom for a happy life. Who couldn't use a bit more undisturbed calmness in their lives? One particular verse sticks out for me in my studies and discussing it makes the text come alive!

Good morning everybody.

Welcome to In The Flow.

This is Laurie Albert and we are ready to get our meditation on and stuff.

There's a joke about that and I'll share that with you in a minute.

So yeah,

So I have been taking courses actually several over the course of however many years.

I won't say how many years it's been but on the ancient texts and I am like learning so much.

Right now I'm in a course with David Gee and we're talking about all the different ancient texts.

I am studying the Yoga Sutras,

The Bhagavad Gita,

That sort of stuff right for right now.

So I am studying the Yoga Sutras.

The Yoga Sutras were written like thousands of years ago.

That's like a long time obviously.

Yoga Sutras were written thousands of years ago and they are basically the basis for yoga.

When I say yoga I don't just mean the poses.

I'm talking about yoga like the way to live your life like meditation and just the poses and breathing and Kundalini and energy all of that stuff.

So the Yoga Sutras are like one of the oldest texts around.

So it's really fascinating reading this and learning about it.

So because I'm in this course I am reading this book.

I am reading this book.

Well I'm reading the Yoga Sutra book and this particular translation is by Sri Swami Satchidanada.

I always get it wrong because it's so complicated.

Satchidanada.

Anyway,

His translation of the Yoga Sutras is so cool and he's so down to earth.

He's so cool.

So I'm reading this.

I came across this one of the verses and it just brought me to tears because it's amazing.

It's an amazing verse from this.

So I wanted to share this with you and I wanted us to meditate on this.

This is really cool.

So this is book one of four of the Yoga Sutras.

This is verse 33.

Wait till you hear this.

This is great.

By cultivating attitudes of friendliness toward the happy,

Compassion for the unhappy,

Delight in the virtuous,

And disregard toward the wicked,

The mind stuff retains its undisturbed calmness.

So basically if you want to have peace in your life,

Calmness in your life,

Those are the four things you need to do.

By cultivating attitudes of friendliness towards the happy,

Compassion for the unhappy,

Delight for the virtuous,

And disregard for the wicked,

The mind stuff retains its undisturbed calmness.

Don't you love the word mind stuff?

Now that's his translation,

Right?

But this is so cool.

Mind stuff is all the good,

Bad,

Everything in your brain.

All of those feelings in your brain,

All of those emotions,

All of those adjectives in your brain,

The good stuff,

The bad stuff,

The mind stuff.

I love that.

And it brings it home to me because we all have so much stuff flying around in our brains,

Don't we?

Good stuff,

Bad stuff,

Happy thoughts,

Sad thoughts,

All of it,

Right?

But if you want the undisturbed calmness,

That's what we need to consider,

Right?

So we are gonna meditate on this today.

Isn't that great?

I just love this.

I mean,

First of all,

What a great way to start out your day by thinking of those things.

This verse,

Right?

Friendliness to the happy,

Compassion for the unhappy,

Delight for the virtuous,

And disregard for the wicked.

I mean,

Seriously,

If you think about that,

Just the last one,

Disregarding the wicked,

Just if somebody's doing you wrong,

Just disregard it and move along.

That is undisturbed calmness.

We are so in the age of,

He wronged me,

And you know,

I have my rights and all this other stuff,

And I'm not gonna get political at all,

But disregard for the wicked.

Disregard.

Oh,

It's like,

That's like pow right in the middle of my head,

Right?

So,

All right,

So we are gonna meditate on this.

So let's get ourselves comfortable.

Get yourself situated in your chair.

We're laying down.

You can sit cross-legged or with your feet flat on the floor.

It doesn't really matter.

Whatever is most comfortable for you.

And close your eyes when it feels comfortable.

Beautiful.

Very good.

Now let's take a beautiful,

Deep cleansing breath in.

Breathe in through your nose,

And out your mouth.

Again,

I know I say this,

But that's one of my favorite things to do every single morning.

Breathe in through your nose really slow,

And out.

As we get ready for sitting in the quiet,

I want us to consider the verse of the yoga sutras we just talked about.

Friendliness,

Compassion,

Delight,

And disregard.

Those are all really high vibrational emotions and ways of being.

And what helps us to get there more than gratitude.

So as I like to say,

What are you grateful for?

What are you grateful for today?

For those of you that are listening in the morning,

It's fresh and it's new for the morning.

If you're not listening in the morning,

If it's another time wherever you are,

What about your day can you be grateful for?

I am grateful.

I am going to the beach today.

So grateful for that.

The recharging of my energetic batteries,

Which is a must-do periodically.

What are you grateful for?

Your family,

Health,

The love you have in your life.

Perfect.

So as we sit in the silence,

Our mantra for the day goes with what we just talked about so perfectly.

Today's mantra is Sat-Chit-Ananda.

Sat-Chit-Ananda.

And that means truth,

Consciousness,

Bliss.

Sat-Chit-Ananda.

So if you lose the mantra,

It's absolutely okay.

Concentrate on your breathing or bring yourself back to the mantra.

I will keep the time and let's begin.

Sat-Chit-Ananda.

Sat-Chit-Ananda.

Sat-Chit-Ananda.

Sat-Chit-Ananda.

You you you you you you you you you start bringing our awareness back to our bodies sat-chit-ananda truth consciousness bliss let's take a nice deep breath in and release knowing that the rest of our day will be in bliss whenever you feel comfortable you can open your eyes very good so live today in undisturbed calmness that's my goal in life right it should be all of our goal at least for today tomorrow's another day so I love you all I wish you the best I wish you a beautiful day and until next time thank you for joining me namaste everybody
